does anyone some pics of a 1981 datsun 280zx's engine bay? preferably customized engine pics, but stock is good too.
its my next model, and im not sure if revell hase modled this engine correctly...doesnt really make sense on the model. The turbo is attached to the air-intake manifold. :eek7: :screwy:

i know on those engines the exhaust manifold sits below the intake manifold .. so they might have it all molded as one peice ...

I can't really help much with 280ZX Turbo pics as the turbo model wasn't ever sold here, however I do have a couple of Skyline R30 turbo's sat outside in my yard which have the same turbo six in them. If you want me to go out and take some pics tomorrow just let me know. Both of them are stock though.
The only 280ZX turbo kit I have seen is the AMT/Matchbox one. On that they have made the turbo and down pipe assembly attach to the underside of the intake...just to simplify it a bit I suppose. It does sit under the intake on the real engine and from above you can't see the exhaust manifold anyway so I can see why they've done it that way.
I think when i eventually come to build mine, I'd like to make a custom intake and exhaust manifold to make it look a little more realistic.

You should try www.240Z.org. Tons of pics on the older Zs there.

Likewise..I don't ever recall having seen a 280ZX turbo here  Actually the two R30's I have here are both imports..that model was never sold here. We got the C110 Skyline from 1972 and the C210 from about 1975 but then nothing until the R32 in 1989. They sold a couple of hundred of those officially but since then there's been thousands of import R32, 33 and 34's brought in privately.
Hehe..sorry about the thread hijack

oh yeah, sorry it is an AMT model, but i mistaked it for a revell because the quality isnt half bad..i mean, every thing so far seems to fit great.
and that would be great ratdat especially of the wiring...like spark plugs etc.

I used to own a '83 280ZX. While it wasn't a turbo, I have first hand experiences as I worked on the car mywelf quite often. Anway, the L28 engine is unique that it has both intake and exhaust ports on the left side (passenger side in RHD and diver side in LHD countries), and spark plugs are located on the other side. That's why the turbo sits below the intake manifold, and IIRC, the stock ZX turbo didn't have the intercooler either. So, when detailing the model, make sure not to screw up the basic configuration of the L28, or I'll pick on you. :)
I'm working on a 280ZX myself at this moment. As for the reference, go to ebay, and search by 280ZX, and sort by highest priced. That will show many real ZX on sale, and some have good engine pics.
(It's a fantastic car. I miss my ZX...)

I sold my '81 ZX turbo about 2 years ago, but I made this website to show pics to buyers. Only one engine pic but I hope the rest of the pics help. I'm surprised the site is still there, and I have no idea how to access it anymore!

btw I did have the AMT kits the same time I had the car. The engine isn't bad except it doesn't really model the intake and exhaust manifolds separately. Like somone mentioned theyh're right on top of each other, so it's not that big of a deal unless you plan on showing the engine out of the car.

i plan on doing the engine right up, with intercooler...trying to figure out how im going to do nitrous lines and BOV. i made deep dish rims for the rear, adding strut tower bars, and lowering it. and topping it off with...a first for me , candy blue.
