Alright, iv got a 94 xj se, and have the following questions:
1. My steering has about 2 inches of play to eaither side, is this common?
2. When iv got my AC on, periodicaly, there will be a loud humming noise from under the dash on the passengers side..any ideas?
3. Iv got a 5sp, and the accelaration is absolutly horrible, unless I really get on it. Is tis common in cherokees or is it probably an engine problem?
Thanks

as for your steering i would check your tie rods, idler arm alll your frontend sterring componets. if anything breaks up there youll find your self in a ditch or worse.the air conditioning i cant help you there. as for the acceleration have you done a tune up ie spark plugs wires cap rotor air filter. check your fuel filter or replace it. put some injector cleaner in the gas to clean out the injectors.have your ignition coil checked to make sure it is worrking properly. hope this helps.

I had an XJ with 194000 miles on it. Acceleration problems happened with fuel pump twice, first before it went (making noise), second after it went, both at about 80-90K each. Catalytic converter caused some performance issues as well (often overlooked)

My 94 has always had horrible acceleration. 5sp 4.0 engine. They were made for pulling houses and log crawling, not beating rice burners. :-) I used to watch the ricers cook me at stop lights and laugh...then when it snowed and they were stuck, which didn't take very much snow, I'd smile and wave at them on the way by... :evillol:
