I have a 1992 4.3L v6W Vortec with fuel problems. I was driving on the highway, as long as I was accelerating it ran ok, when I would let off it would start to hesitate. By the time I got to the off ramp, went to stop, it stalled. I couldn't get it to start up again. The engine turns over but sounded as if it wasn't getting fuel. When I checked it, it sounded as if the fuel pump was running. I put a new dist. cap, rotor, coil on. I checking the timing and it was fine too. Well out of the blue it started, ran for about 4 miles, coughed and choked and stopped again. I kept trying to start it every 10 minutes or so. Then once it just started up again but stalled almost immediatley. I have changed the fuel pump SIX times over five years! What could be the problem!!!!!???

I have a 1994 4.3L "w" Vortec with the same problems, plus some. I replaced my dist. cap and rotor, EGR valve, O2 sensor, and spark plugs (this was all w/in 6 months - 3 times in 6 months for the plugs.) The darn check engine light came back on recently and my start up was - and still is - REALLY slow. I was loosing more and more MPG and it was really irritating me. I finally had the engine stripped by a real mechanic with all of the right tools and such, and they found all of my problems. The main thing wrong was my computer. I replaced that SOB and so far things are working better, but I still need to fix everything the computer screwed up. I suggest you get that bad boy looked at ASAP! I wish I did. Hope this was of some help.
