...Or I guess this could apply to a number of Fujimi kits with flip-up lights. When I was trying to scribe the lines around the headlights to cut them out, the knife slipped and I punched a hole in the headlight door :( Like a hot knife through butter! I can fix it it but MAN what a pain, it was practically ready for paint. I think I'll leave the MR2 and Supra's healights closed. At least I won't have to worry about it when I build the Levin coupe.

lol, headlight door? which part is that? the clear part? and man... what a shame...

i think the best thing to do is make it interchangeable.... tho id on't know how...

edit: hearing that hot knife comment, i was wondering, has anybody tried heating a knife before cutting? it would make it easier no (not to the point of melting plastic, but softening)

Next time use a panel scribing thingy (dang what is the real name of those? been a long time since I bought mine) or maybe even a razor saw (can be useless on stuff like FD rx 7's with complex curved headlight covers though I guess, in that case option 1).

you talkin about dental scrapers?

I got two dental picks/scrapers delivered to my door for $10 from here:

the tips were SUPER sharp. chris has a tutorial on how to open up doors and hoods, may be helpful..

find it... HERE:

they sell knives that heat up. just plug into a wall or whatever and it heats up in a minute or two, and there ya go. instead of cutting through parts u can melt through them. i've heated my knife w/ an open flame to help mold parts to custom fit something.
***but be care not to melt a hole through the door panel on your model....it's really hard to fix that.

Well I was able to fix it, and cut out both doors. The second came out withought a hitch. All set for primer now :)

I just bought a hobby kit: its a soldering gun with different tips. And the coold thing is that you can use the same blade as many of you are uding. I have tried on just a peace of plastic - it is WAY better than butter.
Regular price is only $9.99 (I bought for $2.49)
It says its a woodburner, but its works great on plastic (I checked) Here is a link (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=38593)
