Do you know the difference between those terms?
Some insurance companies use a number system that determines your rates. For example, my car (97 TSI) is i think a 20. A 2000 Celica is a 21. A 2003 Mini cooper is a 23, and a 2003 BMW would be higher than those.
Some companies will use terms to tell you about what your car is, and why the rates are how they are, in essence, a number on a scale of all cars. They will point out a few 'classifications' as you put it. Coupe, Sports car/Sporty coupe, Engine over 2 liters OR 2 seater OR (something else that made my insurance go up, I forgot), All wheel drive, turbocharged, and maybe a few others.
Coupe: Closed car with 2 doors and usually under 33 ft^3 of cargo room.
Sedan: Fixed roof with room for 4+ passengers, usually 2 doors. (Saloon)
Touring: An open car with seats for four or more passengers
Sports: tough to settle on one definition for this, its a group of cars, tightly sprung (less comfortable than a passenger car), easily maneuverable, etc. It's easier to decide what cars are sports cars, not what one is.

Well your car will cost, depending on a few things, 8-12,000 dollars, and insurance should be near 2000 dollars a year, maybe more maybe less for a turbo.

I'd say thats a tad on the high side. I see lots of 97 RS's go for $6000. And I also thought the insurance maybe high, but to my surpise mine came out to be cheaper than I expected. I'm only 19 myself and have a speeding ticket, and an accident (gothic chick rear ended me) and I pay $1900 a year. I have full coverage with $50 deductable. So I guess it just depends what company you go with (I'm with Safeco).
In my opinion the 17 year old kid should go for a 95-98 RS/GS DSM. I dunno maybe it depends on the person, but when I was 16-17 for example I was crazy. Whenever I got behind the wheel, I'd break every law out there within minutes. ;) That and of course the insurance would be higher and the car itself more expensive if you were to go turbo (of course there are those rare RS/GS w/ turbos that go cheap... thats another thing all together lol)
Anyways... it depends on what your looking for in a car, but I recommend getting a 95-98 DSM thats been modified. I've seen lots of 95 Eclipses with 97+ trims, new wheels, nice stereo, etc. etc. go for under 5 grand. So anyway I think best bang for your buck is right there and depending what insurance you go with, it won't be expensive at all. :)

I meant for a turbo, I said it at the end, sorry if I didn't make it clear. Yes you can get other models cheaper, but there will be turbo envy soon, and forget about modding RS/GS because it just costs more money. CAN be done, but its not cheaper.

check progressive.com (http://www.progressive.com) and you can see what insurance rates will be like. you don't need a vin#, just make and model and your personal info. it will take less than 10 min, and it may help you with your parents. and you can get quotes with other companies too.

Okay I see, with a turbo, that sounds about right then. I wasn't saying get a RS/GS and turbo it. What I mean is sometimes theres some for sale like that, and they can be found for good prices, just something to check out for.
