Glass Packs?

I was just wondering glass packs would sound good on a 305 v8? And if so... i only have one exhaust pipe right now, so i assume that my other one is just tied into it.... about how much could adding another pipe and 2 glass packs cost me? also... would it be really loud with glass packs or just sorta loud?

at a competent muffler shop, it will cost another 120 to 170 dollars to run an other pipe, Unless your car has a single catalytic converter, then they will only y off after the cat and charge the same amount, Yes it will sound good, not loud, unless you have headders then it will be reall loud when you stand on it. It is a federal offernse for a shop to take a cat off or modify the internals of the cat.

It really depends on the size of the glasspack and how loud it will be. The smallest glasspack I ever used was 12" on a 76chevy pu 350cid it was the loudest POS I ever heard (with a full exhaust system). If all your wanting is to be heard glasspacks are the cheap way, but for performance they sound like crap are very restricting. If your want performance save the extra money and get a desent exhaust system, its worth it.

Yes, glass packs are very restrictive. I believe that sound you are talking about is the "redneck" truck sound or "ranch truck" sound. Very loud and annoying. A good dynomax or flowmaster muffler (even just 1) on a larger diameter pipe will make more power than duals with glass packs.. The best sounding car iv'e ever heard was a 94 firebird formula with a 383 stroker Lt-1 and a 3 inch mufflex system with a flowmaster 2 or 3 chamber ...pure sweetness to the ears

69 camaro-style chambered mufflers are the way to go, not too loud, less restricive than glasspacks, but more restrictive than flowmasters. These have the best sound i have ever heard

Everything said before is correct. I tried a set on my 350 powered truck that I used to race. Taking a drive up the road, I loved the sound, but it felt like I lost 40 hp. Last glasspaks I ever used. The best muffler FOR THE MONEY that I've found is the Hooker Super Competition Turbo.
(available thru Summit). That's my personal choice. On my dual set up with headers, it sounds like a "glasspaks" if youre on it, but is fairly quiet if you are easy on it.
On my Camaro Z28 with single exhaust, the crossflow Flowmaster is about right. It is a lively performer as is so I left it as a single exhaust.
I have Thrush Turbos on my 69 Nova SS 427 and they are really too quiet.
I don't think they flow as good as the Hookers.
I run original equipment replacement non turbo mufflers on the 73 Vette with duals and they are way too quiet
In any case , it's a great to have a little mellow noise.
