My Cavalier knocks when turning at slow speeds. The knock is both audible and can be felt thru the steering wheel. I have not noticed any other steering related problem. Any ideas what my problem is????
Thanks,
John

sounds like a bad CV axle. they will clunk while turning at low speeds. there could also be something wrong with your rack and pinion, or possibably a bad Tie rod or Ball joint. Wheel berring may also be failing. its hard to say, lots of components will cause a clunk. check the CV boots make sure they are not ripped or leaking grease. if they are, chances are the axle is bad. hope this helps alittle bit.

I had a simmilar problem with my wife's 2000 cavalier. Took it to the dealer and they knew exactly what I was talking about. It has to do with the type of grease that gm used when building the car. what happens is that it never gets hot enought to lubercate the stering. Take it back to gm. They will know exactly what you are talking about and if your car is still under warrentee they will fix it for free. GM put out a service bulletin on this.

Thanks for your info. It was very helpful. The Chevrolet dealer installed a Upper Intermediate Shaft Lube Kit and all is well. the kit was $11.50 and labor was $77.20. This is a 2000 Cavalier vice 2001.
Thanks again,
