Delphi Radio Question

Hi Folks,
I have a new 2004 Rendezvoux with a base AM -FM CD and 6 speakers .
My question is: Can the changing of equalization (also known as loudness compensation) be defeated so the volume control just changes the level and not the EQ. It doesn't track worth beans when using different CDs and I hate it. Any help would be appreciated as I like the steering wheel controls and onstar, however while it would be a pain I will replace it with an aftermarket radio if I can't make it work.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Though it may be possible to make the changes you would like via the dealer, it is not likely. These units have the eq programmed into the electronics at the time of installation into the vehicle, allowing for compensation for acoustics and options at build. Ray

Thanks for your reply Ray. I kinda figured there are probably a dozen "compensation curves" but not an "off: position. I'm amazed at the difference between my 2002 which really sounded good, and my 2004 which has the base radio, not even close! Here comes the Pioneer and the Onstar adapter!

This is a quote from your owners manual

SCV (Speed-Compensated Volume)
With SCV, your audio system adjusts automatically to make up for road and wind noise as you drive. To get to SCV, press the TUNE/AUDIO knob repeatedly until SPEED VOL is displayed. Turn the TUNE/AUDIO knob to select MIN, MED, or MAX. Each higher choice allows for more volume compensation at faster vehicle speeds. Then, as you drive, SCV automatically increases the volume, as necessary, to overcome noise at any speed. The volume level should always sound the same to you as you drive. If you do not want to use SCV, select OFF.

Thanks Flatrater,
Thanks for the reply and your time.
I do understand how speed compensated volume works and I have it turned off. What I am talking about is the equalization ( bass and treble) changes with the volume control setting. This is called "Loudness" control and on most aftermarket radios it is defeatable or user adjustable. GM radios tend to have this on all the time and the result when playing CDs is that at lower volumes the CD has WAY TOO much bass and as you increase the volume the Bass thins out and there isn't enough bass. Since this dynamically changes from low to high volume the EQ controls can't compensate for it. There is no obvious switch to turn this off and it may be a hidden menu function. If you have information on hidden menus or dealer programming that can accomplish this, I would be greatful. However from what I've seen on the web so far, I need to replace the radio with one where the volume control doesn't change the EQ.

Hello,

I have a new 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 and the owners manual is somehow lost and I had not gotten to go through it yet. I need some help, On my Delphi Radio it has a switch on the volume knob that you can switch into four different settings and the top 3 settings are just filled in white circles and the bottom one reads SCV and Im thinking this switch is just for Speed Compensated Volume, I know what it is and what it does, but how do I use it? Ive tried and tried again, I read the thing for The Buick Rendevous and it did not work! Please Help me ASAP! email me at [email protected]!!!
