I have a question about anti lock breaks will they lock up on wet pavement The reason i'm asking is my 1998 F150 was just rolled after trying to stop on wet payment and took the ditch to keep from hitting the vehicle in front of me. the reason for the roll was it was a 10 to 12 ft enbankment. the tires locked up on the truck and the vehicle gained speed (which is understandable) the HWY patrol said from what they could tell there was enoght room to stop no tickets were issued so there was not excess speed involved. any relpy would be help full
thanks

I'm under the understanding they dont. I have slammed on my antilock brakes a few times on wet pavement and they never locked up, but hey, I could be wrong! :bananadie

Ardave,
The whole idea of "ABS" is to PREVENT wheel lock-up under ANY conditions. The question is, do you have 4 wheel ABS or Rear wheel ABS on your '98. The easiest way to know for sure is to check the rear brakes. If you have DISC rear brakes, you have Four Wheel ABS, if you have rear drum brakes, you have Rear Wheel ABS only. In the case of RWABS (drum), the front wheels would skid (lock-up) and cause a loss of control.

I too have had mine lock up on my 98 flairside.....Only seems to do it if the rotors are wet...For instance when first leaving in the truck for the day. After that they seem to be fine. Don't know that it will help much but it does establish the traits in the forums for others to read,,,,,You are not alone...lol
