1986 tcc location??? please help

Thanks for looking at my thread. This question is about a 1986 grand am with the 2.5 L (4 cyl.)

I believe that I am having problems with the tcc solenoid. (car dies when I stop and dies as soon as i put it in gear after restarting). Anyway, I was wanting to know if anyone out there new where I could locate this solenoid? Internal or external? Any information would be appreciated, especially if you have any tips on how to replace this with no problems.

I am also experiencing a loud wine coming from the passengers rear of the vehicle. Could this be a rear wheel bearing? Seems to be a slight wobble in the wheel when i shake it back and forth. (not as stiff as front wheel)

The TCC solenoid should be located inside of the cover on the left hand side of the transmission. Take off the wheel and the plastic cover, then the metal one on the transmission. It should be in there. To check whether it actually is the solenoid, disconnect the four prong connector that goes to the transmission and take it for a drive. If it does not stall anymore, then it is the TCC.

Thanks for your help. I checked and it is the solenoid. Do you think this is something I need to take to shop to fix or something I could fix myself? I am not too bad at turning bolts but don't have any experience with internal transmission work.

If you have access to a lift, or if this is a car you dont have to drive every day and could put up on jacks in your garage for a few days, i would say go for it. A proffesional mechanic will charge up to 300$ to ge this done.

I have had 2 GM cars with this problem. Both times I just unplugged it and left it and the cars ran fine. You may notice less MPG though.
