Hoping someone can help with this one. When I put the transmission from reverse to drive. It does not engage for for about 10 seconds. When I back out of my driveway and put it into drive then give it gas it goes nowhere, it will feel like it is slipping and then finally catches and then goes, it does not happen when the engine is warm mainly in the morning or if the car has been sitting all day. Does anyone know why this is happening? For a car with 5000 miles and the reputation of a BMW, this has to be completely unacceptable!
Hope everyone has a Great New Year!!

I have 2004 325 and am having the exact same problem. My dealer told me that there are problems with the 2003 and 04 transmission. BMS wants to replace mine.

There is a know problem with some 2003 and 2004 model 3's and X5's equipped with the GM5 transmission (which your vehicle has). The only fix right now is replacement of the tranny, but they are in very limited stock.

My X5 was repaired by my dealer by upgrading the Transmission control module software.

The car still slips a bit, but not when initially placed into drive and only when its cold outside (like its been lately in NY).

I've been to the Dealer 4 times so far. Today, they finally have suggested the new transmission, and supposedly have ordered a new one.

The first 4 visits resulted in 2 oxygen sensor replacements, then 2 engine coil replacements. None of which made a difference in the rough morning start and delay in shifting into gear.

I guess I should be happy that they are facing the facts that the problem exists with the transmission, but how happy can you be that your brand new $34,000 german sedan needs a new transmission?

This is unusual for BMW - I hope the new transmission is the answer.

I'm curious to hear the feedback of anyone that has already received the new tranny...
