Good lord, the beeping!

I dont know if I'm the only one bothered by this, but it sure does seem like my civic likes to beep. Beeps when the seatbelts are unfastened, and sometimes even when they are. beeps when you turn it on, beeps when you turn it off.

I am thinking of just disconnecting the seatbelt beeper altogether.

Another thing that's annoying and that I really can't understand is that it beeps constantly when you leave the key in the "I" position.

Now this just doesn't make sense to me - there are four positions, the one when you put it in, then "I", "II" and "III". III is start i believe, making II run, and I the accessory position, when you want to sit in the car and listen to the radio. But my beeper keeps going off in the I position, so it really makes no sense to me! Is this normal?

I would just disconnect this beeper too, but I really would like to have it beep if i leave the keys in the ignition, so I remember to take them out. I guess I could put a relay on the beeper, running one of the leads through the normally closed side of the relay, and hook the coil to the ACC wire, so that when there's power to the ACC it can't beep, but when its off it can.

Just seems like a stupid design to me though - and with all the infernal beeping why couldnt they include a headlight alarm? sheesh

i feel the same way my car beeps for everything
the worst is when i drop someone off, they unhook the seat belt so it starts to beep, they get out and close the door and the car will not stop beeping till i restart the car it is so fucking annoying

when my car is in the "I" postion my dosent beep unless the door is open is this what ur talking about?

No, if I'm just sitting there, seatbelt on or off, car not running, it beeps if i have the key in, in either the off or the I position

I can turn it to II, which is the "run" position the car should be in when its running, and it wont beep there but i dont know if its ok to sit in the car listening to the radio like that. I know on older cars it was actually bad for them to do that (and of course thats the whole point of having the I position anyways!)

yeah, it's annoying as hell

My crx only beeps if I leave the keys in the ignition with the car off. Guess I lucked out with it breaking. LOL.

I'm thinking that mine might be broken, but it seems like a really weird failure mode :(

it just seems too stupid for the design to be that it beeps at you to take the keys out if they're in the I position where you'd have it so you could listen to the radio or whatever

I had this problem too, reach under the front seats, and grab the wire that's in a ribbed plastic tube and yank. It will come unplugged, and you will no longer have the seat belt buzzer problem. I did this on both the drivers side and the passengers side.

i tried that a while ago and that did nothing for it.
instead of beeping sometimes it beeped all the time
it might just be my messed up car though

So I have the same problem....the seatbelt indicator is constantly beeping while I am driving. I unplugged the wires under the driver and passenger seats and that did not work. Please someone give me another suggestion!

unhook all of it and install a headlight buzzer, http://www.fourthgenhatch.com/headlightbuzzer.html

Mine only beeps if I have the key in the I position, and a door is open. I have automatic belts so about the seatbelts I couldn't tell you. And as for when the key is in the off position, it only beeps if you open on of the doors with the key still in the ignition.

As for the beeping, I must be weird but I like it. Almost like the car is saying "Good morning! I've been waiting to go for a ride all night!" :P

It must be a popular thing to happen to our cars. The easiest way to fix it is to simply take apart the rearview mirror panel that's around those seatbelt lights and then unplug the plug to the beeper up in there. Stopped for me and has never come back.

My '91 just developed the same beeping prob. Not the intentional beeping, but just the seatbelt thing. Before i ended up here i found that there are some recalls on the belts for these cars--maybe associated w/ the cause?

Not that anyone in suped-up honda would care, but I'm thinking it might actually be a result of seatbelt failure--da thang doesnt seem to work!

I'm gonna try unplugging the harness under the seat and regardless of whether it works, dan's gonna be tearin' into the seatbelt coil dealy and seeing if there's a broken catch or somethin'.

TNX to silentchamber for da light beeper link!

Im pretty sure as long as your doors are closed you can turn your car to ON and it won't beep if youw ant to listen to the radio or something.... I think thats position III or something...

If only! Car is on and running and doors are closed and between seconds and 2 minutes after I start the car and close the door the fricken seatbelt light starts flashing and beeping and doesnt stop till i either turn the car off or open the door. That's interesting--i open the door as i'm going down the road and the beeping stops for seconds to 2 minutes before it starts again.

Handbook doesnt say anything about it, but i think it might be connected to some sort of sensor that monitors some aspect of the belt mechanism that's broken. The belt doesnt catch most of the time--even if i brake and jerk on the thing it still doesnt catch. This is new, too, so i'm thinking that the beeping is in fact associated w/ a real problem. it'd be nice if the haynes manual said somethin' but nope.

Most recently, it started stuttering sorta before it got to beeping persistently.

There was one early post on this thread by a guy who really sounded like he had the exact same prob.

Gimme a broken trans or a shoddy CV joint, the beeping and the seatbelt gotta go! If i wanted this crap I'd have bought a ford.

I believe the buzzer system works by grounding the two wires together. At least that is how it works for the ignition beeper. I may be wrong, but simply just unplugging the harness from the seatbelts might not stop the beeping, they may need grounded together. I would test with a paperclip first.

you're right. unplugging the harness did nothing. Thismorning i drove to work with my door ajar just to get some silence.

Man that sucks! My buzzer was acting funny in my rex and I knew it was coming from where the rearview mirror is attached, so I took it apart and disconnected the plug from the seatbelt (per side of car) light bulb indicator, taped up the plug and tucked it away and that stopped the buzzing. Then after all that rain, the big red warning light started to blink all the time. I wasn't having it. I went around the block and tested to make sure the belts still locked and they did so I yanked that bulb out and haven't had a problem since. I don't know how the civic is in comparison, but I'd listen close to where the beeping is coming from then work backwards unplugging stuff from that point.

As far as I position beeping....
If you take the keys out and put them back in it will shut up(mine does)

I think Honda planned for you sitting in the car with aux engaged, but if you go to aux(I) straight from run(II) the car thinks you are leaving the keys in after driving

If you remove the steering wheel, and the black shroud that covers the ignition and such, there is a little black switch under the ignition itself, with two gray wire coming out the back of it. If you removed that (1 screw) you can see the terminals inside it. Just wrap it with electrical tape (careful not to push the switch down) and secure it safely somewhere under the steering colum. This way you can put it back if you evar wish to.

Beeping go bye bye.

the reason it beeps when the keys are in the ignition after u turn it off or open the door is so that u dont lock ur keys in the car.

Hey Guys, I Had Same Problem When I Installed My Racings Seats. I Unplugged Sensor From Stock Seats, And Poped Off Plastic Panel Above Rear Viem Mirror....there Are Three Screws Holding Rear View Mirror To Car. Unscrew Then And You Will See A Clip, Unplug It And It Will End All Your Beeping Headaces, lol, Only Thing In Car That Has To Do With Seat Belt Beeping....100% Fix

Ding Dong the Beeping's dead. Thank You, Thank you, Thank you. I did what I read on here and killed that anoying beeping in the I position. A couple of things though. I didn't have to remove the Steering Wheel. If you are careful you can get to it without doing that. Also once you remove the switch from under the ignition switch you will notice that the switch itself is held together by clips. You can open up the switch put some electrical tape over one of the contacts so they can't make contact and put the switch back together. Then you can screw the switch back were it was. If you ever want to make it work again just remove the tape. The silence is nice

For those who are annoyed by the seatbelt chime constantly going off, go to this website-www.clickercheater.com. They sell silencing devices for $15 and they're totally legal. You don't have to worry about fumbling with wires to disable the alarm, and possibly disabling the airbag. I bought one because I travel with my dog pretty often, and when she's in the front seat I hate having to listen to the chime continuously going off-and now I don't have to. This is an awesome product!

I had a similar problem that has now evolved into an even bigger one. I bought a used 90 CRX. About a week later, while driving, the door open light started flashing while I was driving along with the seatbelt light and chime. There was a clicking coming from inside the drivers door, as tho something inside was trying to make a connection. I tried everything - even took it to the bodyshop and had the door adjusted. Finally had to disconnect the buzzer. All was good for 6 months or so, then the door open and seatbelt lights both started up again, tied to the door clicking. It seemed to happen after a hard rain, and now it is happening all the time. Recently, I noticed the clicking continued after the car had been shut off. Today, the battery is dead, and I'm pretty sure it's due to whatever in the door is continuing to do its clicking.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm taking it up to my nephew on friday, and we're going to the door apart - I'm hoping we can just disconnect a wire or something, but I don't have the manual so no door diagram.

Thanks for any help given!!

Tony

Its probably the sensor in the latch itself. I dont have mine hooked up so it never thinks the door is open, or closed. Seat belt light always flashes though.
