at some point in the future i plan on swapping out my D15 for a B18B, when i do so i am thinking about throwing on a lightweight flywheel but i am not sure if there are certain brands to stay away from, certain ones to look for, etc and was hoping someone might have some insight. i have already searched the forum and didn't find any threads regarding this.

It all depends what the car will be used for & what it's built for. On the street your not gonna want a 8lb flywheel, on the other hand you don't want a 12lb. flywheel for race only. The lightest I personally would use on the street(daily driver) is 11-12lbs.

I only hear bad stuff about the clutchmasters - flywheels & clutches

Unorthodox Racing make good flywheels and clutches. and so do centerforce and Exedy.

There are hardly any drawbacks to a lighter flywheel. It is easier on your synchros and bearings by having the less rotating mass of the heavier flywheel to keep them spinning. Quicker revvin and slowdown.

I suggest doing some research. Light flywheels cause harsh shift and can damage trans/engine internals due to loss of inertia/improper driving technique - 12lbs or less - daily driver.

Within the next few month I will be purchasing a clutch and lightweight flywheel. I'd be leary of going to light, like you have heard.
Flywheels do a lot more than just rob your car of power: they keep the motor turning when your wheels are trying to slow it down.
I plan on going with an HD ACT clutch and a streetlight flywheel ~12lbs.
ACT suggested this product for my application. If you are going to drive you car other than racing I'd recomind a medium wieght.
Unorthodox is a good brand too, but $$$$
I haven't had much experience with import cars and this subject. I'm still doing research myself, but this isn't my first rodeo if you know what I mean.

If your burning out, wouldn't a heavier flywheel help your wheels maintain smoother/stronger velocity??? I wouldn't have much of a clue, I don't have experience with flywheels. :disappoin
