Engine pinging\pre-ignition noise

Anyone out there having engine pinging like or pre-ignition noises coming from their engines? I've always used premium 93 octane fuel from different gas stations with the same results. I've taken the car to two different dealers and called Mazda USA but according to them the pinging noise is normal since the Renezis engine is engineered to run lean. So their final answer is that the noise is caused by a lean fuel mixture. I feel that preignition cannot be good for an engine and will affect engine durability. Please let me know if anyone else is having the same problem.

p.s.

Mazda RX8 with Auto Transmission and about 3000. I started hearing the noise until after the engine had about 1500 miles on it.

look, I'm no rx-8 owner, but did you break in the engine correctly?

I have a new RX8 with the Automatic Transmission. I began to notice a pinging noise from the engine at low RPMs after about 800-1000 miles. It has rapidly been getting worse, so I got an appointment to take it into the dealership today (I currently have 1350 miles on it).

I have never put anyting but 92 or 93 octane in the tank, have consistently checked the oil, and ran the car as suggested in the owners documentation for the first 600 miles (it was driven for 400 of those 600 miles by whoever delivered it to the dealership). I still haven't run the vehicle very hard.

Loritz17 says that Mazda told him the pinging is "normal". If this is true Mazda needs to highlight that fact in their vehicle brochure. I would never, under almost any circumstance, have purchased this vehicle if I knew that the engine was going to ping from the first 1000 miles onward. Even if, for some strange reason, pinging is not bad for the engine longevity, the noise spoils the whole point of having a sports car; the pleasure of driving the vehicle.

LMAO tell Mazda to pay some people who have a clue what there talking about to have a look at the car. Mazda techs suck with rotaries. They do nothing but destroy them.

Pinging is EXTREMLY bad for any engine. The pre ignition fo the fuel is more than 100times as violent as the controlled burn created when the spark plug is fired. This means HUGE stress on every part of the motor. On a rotary this means blown apex seals and full engine rebuild.
Mazda did not design the cars to run lean, whoever told you that needs to give here head a shake and make sure there is something left in there.
