Well here is the start of what i hope to be my finest model so far, i have had the kit for 6 months now waiting for my skills to catch up (and my studio 27 photo etch kit to arrive!).
and so it has started, im realy going to take my time on this kit, make each piece as perfect as i can. there is going to obviously be some of my own touches on the car as it wouldnt be one of my models if it didnt!

only planned aftermarket parts are the studio 27 stuff. there are some extremely fiddly bits and you have to plan plan plan before you even open up the box. i have studdied the manual for several hour working out the best way to spray the body and attach the many chrome grills from the studio 27 kit.

well i will let my pics so far speak for a bit.

well i have just sprayed the engine block in alclad polished aluminium, now to me it looks more like cast aluminium with a darkwash, which is the effect i was after. looks good!
also put the first coat of a multi stage paint on the body pannels! wont let you see what it is till its perfect!

i ove that engine block. is chrome the only alcladII paint that needs a gloss black undercoat?

Yes only chrome needs a enamel gloss black undercoat!!

chrismcgee
01-02-2004, 11:33 AM
i always undercoat all things with black when using alclad paints. i used polished aluminium rather than chrome as i feel it looks better.

cheers joe for the photo etch set, i want one for every model i now make, especialy the skyline r34 kit! and the 350z!

photo etch seems to be the finishing touch to tamiyas (almost) perfect models

chris, how bout some sick candy paint to match the 360, same color.

but in blue!

chrismcgee
01-02-2004, 07:42 PM
put it this way, the paint is gonna be much sicker than the 360! i plan on building several 360's and enzo's this year so candy blue is definately gonna be on one of them. i think candy blue challenge stradale with chrome rims maybe?

Man that looks great. I'm relly jealous of your valve covers..
The Tamiya kit looks much better than the revell I must say. Will have to buy one sometime.
The exhaust looks quite different from the Revell.

chrismcgee
01-06-2004, 10:23 AM
cheers guys. am gonna leave the centre caps till the last minuite if possible to stop them getting scratched or damaged.

here are a few more pics. hopefully the build will speed up a little now i have a rolling chassis

http://chris.nwwo.com/store/enzo9.jpg

http://chris.nwwo.com/store/enzo10.jpg

i would definately get the enzo kit if i were you as it is amazing to build and so rewarding.

86_SR5
01-06-2004, 04:30 PM
the exhaust is very different between the revell and enzo. But I bought my enzo because the LHS has the tamiya for 46.99, for that I could buy 3 revells!

chrismcgee
01-06-2004, 04:35 PM
i think the only problem that this kit has is that if a newbie tried building it it could serverely put him/her off. as the instructions need to be checked over and over to work out painting and assembling orders. like group painted parts. maybe they should also include some colour photos for people of stuff like engine bay to further help people. i have mainly used photographs and other members (the saints) photos as reference.

chrismcgee
01-07-2004, 06:17 AM
here is a little more progress on the interior and rear diffuser. i have gone for a buff interior rather than the standard red, seeing as the exterior isnt gonna be in standard colour i though hey why not.

am trying to get as much of the chassis built so i can concenrate on my paint job. as i want it to be imaculate as possible.
the next photos show the interior photo etch and the rear photo etch all in place. all these look so much better than the origional.

chrismcgee
01-08-2004, 02:32 AM
well here is a sneaky test pic of the car at the moment. but this is the first of the base coats as black helps colours come through! so its not gonna be a final black car!

wheels are only temporary as i the enzo wheels are so fragile. i broke off a male arm on the front drivers side wheel! and the glue should hold but dont wanna stress it too much hence the skyline rims.

Nice work Chris..
After seeing JK's (from Jamiroquai) Black Enzo I was kicking myself for doing mine red.. Perfect excuse to do the kit again I think! :iceslolan

Out of interest where do you get your silver foil from I've been hunting around the UK for this for a while and have yet to find a good one?

Looking forward to seeing it finished.

chrismcgee
01-08-2004, 05:04 AM
well my silver foil comes in 150mm x 25 meter rolls! its used for sealing up air conditioning ducts. im sure you can get it from a decent hardware store.i will see if i can ahem, borrow, a few more rolls from where i used to work. its damn heavy per roll tho. nice and thin (same thickness as aluminum foil) but with a great glue. and you can pull it off and reposition it as many times as you want. it should only be cheap. cant understand why bare metal foil is so expensive as its almost exactly the same?????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????

MrHappy
01-08-2004, 05:39 AM
Thanks for that Chris..
I just remebered the link I had for pics of JK's black Enzo.

glossy paint dude. keep up the good work.

chrismcgee
01-08-2004, 11:24 AM
well i was so close to completion. but i think i didnt put enough coats of rage flip paint on in the right places (so difficult to apply). because when i started spraying ts13 over the top it looked ok but on closer inspection i see areas where the clear has eaten the flip pain. oh well. back to the air brush.

http://chris.nwwo.com/store/enzo17.jpg

also the flash has totalu over exagerated the flakes, they are tiny and look super smooth not big and flakey

shit, so the Ts13 is eating the paint?

fuck, the decal of 850 btcc sedan was fucked up by TS13 when I built it few years ago. that was my first time try, and it already is my last try with TS13.

hmmm, try to use "Gunze/ Mr color" acalyic clear. it is in 10ml small bottle size, and use airbrush works great. The finish has no orange peel.

gd luck with TS13. I dont want it to waste your $$ flippaint. :D

jimbob

looks sweet chris
what colour will it be when finished?

did u get the paint in the end then?

JIM

chrismcgee
01-08-2004, 02:42 PM
jim, sorry dude i never recived the paint (red to gold). this is the last batch of red to blue rage that i had left. still loving it loads. although its run me dry doing the enzo. so when did you post the paint?

just dont the second coat and it looks better than before! yay. gonna airbrush the clear coat over the top now though. then do a few coats of ts13. i know it doesnt react to the tamiya paints!

so lets hope that by tomorrow i can start putting the cowls onto this beautiful car

chrismcgee
01-08-2004, 04:52 PM
well i made up a 50/50 mix of X22 and X20a thinner and airbrushed it over the rage paint. i managed 4 layers and am truely impressed. its looking greater than before. in the morning i may add further coats of laquer as i put it back in the bottle. not gonna use anymore TS13 as i am much happier withthe results i just got.

also i just ordered a few kits from Joeclaw and b4 he had a chance to pack my previous order i made sure he put some Tamiya model wax in there! that should help the shine even more.

86_SR5
01-08-2004, 06:17 PM
damn!!! I knew it!! I shoulda left my Enzo green to purple mirage! But noooo, I had to go strip it and do it in white with pearl clear. Oh well, an excuse to build another! Paint looks awesome, so this is a goldish-red to blue paint, looks real hot!

woah!!!great job so far chris...im thinking of doing an enzo in raw carbon fiber....but this is very interesting...great job!!

chrismcgee
01-09-2004, 10:40 AM
i would love to see a raw carbon enzo but i think it would slowly drive you insane. why not make a black enzo with small exposed areas of carbon i.e on the hood. then spray over the whole lot with tamiya smoke and then some clear. that way i think it would save a lot of time and stress. and still look cool
