2000 Elantra - hesitation prob/MAF sensor?

I have a 2000 Elantra with nearly 90K on it. I recently had to have the cat replaced - had brought it in for a hesitation problem but the cat was the only code it threw them. When you are driving, it runs fine until you let off and then lightly accelerate (at any speed). It then hesitates and the RPMs jump up and down (only a little but enough to be worrisome). When you let off it is fine. The cruise control cannot be used due to this problem (acts the same in cruise as it does on light accel) Has also had a tune up done (plugs, wires, fuel/air filters) - Hyundai suggests it is a 90% chance it is the MAF sensor but it's not throwing them a code so they can't guarantee it and it will cost me $330 to find out :( Others have suggested the air flow meter (replaced that) and oxygen sensors, but I wanted to ask the gang here first. Thank you and Happy New Year :)

your MAF sensor is your airflow meter.

my guess..and i am 75% sure it is right...is a bad TPS (or throttle position sensor). get that checked out.

oh - sorry, I asked a mechanic in town and was told they're different (new bie doesn't BEGIN to describe me, hehe)

awesome - I will call about that immediately - thank you so much Tibby :) I'll post a reply once I get it checked.

Hyundai has a recall on the MAF sensor as it is positioned wrong and causes the problem you describe. Other issues are with the injectors fouling and getting damaged. These will need replaced. Hyundai dealer can diag , projected cost to replace one is $348.00.
