Need help with controls on steering wheel of 2001 Aurora the controls don't all light up at night. Anyone know how to get at the switches? Do I have to remove the air bag? Help.

New style Aurora steering wheel controls are removed by prying the assembly (CAREFULLY!) from the wheel. The harness is VERY short.

Which controls don't light up on your wheel?

Which controls don't light up on your wheel?

Both radio and the temp controls the only one working is the fan speed selector

Of the 4 controls, only my 2 radio controls work. Guess I'll try pulling my climate switches out.

Are these controls powered through an old style friction plate on the backside of the wheel? If so, can the plate(ring) just need cleaned?

I also wondered how the connection was made from column to wheel. But if it was a slip ring, I think my lights would flicker as I turned the wheel. My 2 radio lamps are work properly and the 2 HVAC lamps are always off.

So you don't know if the control switch is bad or it's just not getting power?

Hopefuly each switch has simply 2 terminals, and testing the leads will be easy. I don't have the FSM yet. I'll go out in a minute and check it. If you don't hear from me again, the airbag probably deployed and snapped my neck.
