1989 Audi 90 Transmission Problems

While I was headed up an on-ramp, my car (1989 90 5 cylinder automatic) felt like it slipped into neutral. Since then all it will do is rev freely in any gear you try it in. Checked fluid, filter, linkage, and lines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....driving me nuts!!
