I was thinking about installing a remote starter and I was not sure if when I put a spare key in and turn it to the on position if this would make it so my car would start be the remote starter or does it "read" the key only when you crank it. I know I can buy a bypass but I was wondering if this would work or not.

It depends on the year of S-10 you have but most of the time they jsut read the key when you crank it. I STRONGLY suggest buying Directed part number 555L if you have a newer S-10. It rereads your key each and everytime you start it with the key. This is very important to keep it working years down the road.
