Intake Manifold

Just found out that my Tahoe, 98, with 77.0 miles has a intake manifold leak. I have been smelling antifreeze. My neighbor who has a 98 Tahoe also, had a cracked manifold in the past month, he has 98.0 miles on his. Is this a problem with all Tahoes? and if so, why isn't Chevy taking care of it. Who do you report it to? He phoned GM and got the brush off.

did you buy the extended warranty, thats what they are for. all gaskets fail over time, however, gm just came out with a new design lower intake gasket for your truck, i installed one yesterday and believe it will help the concern.

I just put in a new FEL gasket to fix manifold leak on 99 Suburban 5.7L R engine - probably same as the Tahoe's. How is the "new design" gasket different from old? Perhaps if you posted a picture of the new gasket, all of us who have fought this battle could appreciate if this is worth pursuing.

the new design gasket has metal around the bolt holes to prevent overtightening the gasket and causing premature failure.

Are we saying that extended warranties should be purchase to compensate for poor design or workmanship. I don't agree. I also don't agree that all gaskets fail over time, unless you are talking about a lot of time, not 77.0 miles. If it isn't a design problem then why the new gasket?

if a gasket could be designed that would never fail then we wouldn't be able to afford the initial cost of the vehicle, the new gasket is a improvement over the original and will also fail over time.

I just found out today that my 99 Tahoe has a leak at the intake manifold, I was smelling antifreeze. My mechanic told me that Chevy uses plastic gaskets with a rubber inlay. He believes this is a design flaw. Let me know if there is a better gasket to get. My Tahoe only has 69,000 miles on it.

I have had 5 gaskets. Yes, it's a known problem. More like alum. mainfold, and different block. Intake manifold gasket should NOT fail, unless it is defective, or put in incorrectly. So it is a design flaw. and chevy should eat it. but they will deny any problems.

aluminum expands and contracts a lot more than cast iron..the old motors with cast iron intakes didnt have gasket probs like the new motors...

Have 99 Tahoe 70.0 miles - same problem - have a lifter also that clicks when cold - wonder if the two are connected?
