3rd gen ('79-'93) Mustang engine question

I'm wondering if this generation of Mustangs could fit a chevy big block engine without any heavy modification, or any generation Mustang. I think it would be sweet to have a 3rd gen Mustang with an engine like this. It would go crazy fast I bet, seeing as this is the lightest generation of Mustangs.

Oh yeah. If it couldnt fit a chevy big block, what is the biggest engine do you suppose could fit in?

A 460 will fit without an act of congress, but may I ask, whats wrong with a 460? I COULD walk out to my shop and wack my nads with a torque wrench but that dosen't mean I will. A Ford will make all the power you'll ever need and be easier to fit as well, but if you have to be different it's your car so do with it as you will. Just get ready to catch hell from the Ford and Chevy guys if you do.

Well, I just think it will be easier to find a Chevy engine. I would have no probs with putting a Ford in if I could find one. Know any good places that sell them and ship to Canada? :D

Bennett Racing, Coast High Performance, Keith Kraft Racing, DSS Racing, Panhandle Performance, Ford Motorsport, BB&T Racing, the list goes on and on. Just check out the Mustang mags. like 5.0 or Super Ford, They are full of shops that want to build you a Ford, just be ready to part with some cash because they are all proud of them. Four years ago DSS charged me $150 to ship a shortblock across the country, and it performed as good as I expected. I build my own now but Panhandle Performance does my port and machine work. What do you think about buying rebuilt engines? It seems alot cheaper, but are they worthe the money?

Depends on who builds it and what the price is. The best thing you can do is research. Yea, it's like homework but it's cool. If I spent the time studying my classes as I spent reading Mustang mags I would have my bachelors instead of associates. If you like Mustangs READ, READ, READ. Ask questions, and it'll all fall together. Know who is building the motor and know what he is putting in it. Compare every shop you can locate even if just for a price. Some shops are very proud of their work and will charge the hell out of you if they can, so let them know you're not culeless. Most builders are pretty cool but there are some dicks out there. A baseline DSS 306 is about $1500 and a top of the line is about $3000, this is without heads, intake, throtle body ect. so count on at least a grand for all this. On the other hand a 302 rebuild from NAPA is just a few hundred bucks, but you get what you pay for. CHEAP, FAST, GOOD pick two. Sorry but I haven't figured out how to get around this one yet.

alright, here's my 2 cents

you guys have heard me talk and talk and talk about my 351W. i'm awful proud of that motor, even though it's not much just yet. as a matter of fact, right now it's sitting on a motorcycle trailer. i have everything off except the heads, crank pulley/flywheel/damper, and the bottom end. and of course, it's all stock. all i'm using is the block, which is in great shape.

and where do you think i got it? i was hanging out at the local street races, and met a guy i talked to about my plan. he told me that he had the motor and he wasnt' going to use it... $500, including the trailer it's on. point being, if you know where to look, you can find pretty much any motor you want. i even have a friend with a ford 460 block sittin around, although he may have sold it by now. anyway, good luck, you're in for a hell of a ride
