1.9 Engine In Escort

Hi guys and gals, firstly i'd like to say hi as i'm new here.

Secondly i'd like to ask about the engine in the 1.9 Escort, as i live in Scotland our Escorts are a bit different.

What's the horsepower and torque of this engine?

How many valves does this engine have?

Is it single or double cams?

What is it like for performance?

How many miles/kilometres does it average for a gallon of fuel?

I'm guessing it's petrol and has 4 cylinders in the straight formation.

How good is it for reliability?

What other engines are used in the Escort in America?

Any answers well appreciated.

Heres what I know:

4 valve

Single cam

performance depends on your upkeep

I get about 320 mpg to a tank on regular unleaded
give or take about 30 miles on premium

Great reliablity, bought mine in 98 with 103k it is now sitting at 196k and still going.

1.9 SEFI vs 1.8 DOHC....

Id go SEFI.... quiet, strong, zippy when u need it to be, and lasts forever=)

plus 88 hp is no diff from the core DOHC, i mean the CORE of the DOHC

I would have to say different on that one tho. ive had the 1.9 sefi and now the 1.8 dohc. and I must say the 1.8 is better in everyway. faster, stronger, lasting longer than my other one, and quiet depends on your upkeep too.

oh and the 1.8 has 127 hp not 88
