Does anyone know how to turn off the daytime running light on a 2000 4runner?

Im guessing your are in canada since you have DRL. and just so you know its illegal not to have them on cars after 1990.

Try this. (http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/ducky_drl/ducky.htm)
I've not done this myself, but have heard from one other who has, and the the high beam indicator was always on. I haven't seen any others report that, so your results may vary.

I used the instructions that are referenced in Darren's reply to disconnect the DRLs on my '01 4Runner and it works, except that the hi-beam indicator either flashes or stays on when my headlights are turned off. I have heard of several others who have experienced the same thing. Doesn't really cause any problems, just annoying.

Philbert,
I've got a 2001 as well and don't want to do this mod if I will be having my highbeam light flashing. Rather than taping it down, did you try to ground the wire from the car end (not the plug end)? The tech bullitten (for the 2000) says to pull the wire out then connect it to a grounding point (this applies to the Avalon). Perhaps the 2001 has some of the Avalon Technology in it.
Is your highbeam light still flashing?
Thanks.

How about how to turn them ON on a 2004?!
I had them on my old car, and I prefer them to be on!

I did not ground the wire as I installed a switch, so I could control when the DRLs are on or off. When I turn the DRLs off, the high beam light doesn't come on right away. Eventually, it either comes on solid or flashes. Sometimes it goes off again. Sometimes I hear a soft clicking noise from under the dash when it is flashing. It's bizarre - there does not appear to be any pattern. It's been like this for a few months, but since I leave the DRLs on most of the time, I have learned to live with this annoyance.

Turn off DRL? According to manual, it can be disabled- "contact your Toyota dealer"
Anyone know where to find this and other "dealer" tweaks, like changing the lock/unlock modes, etc ??
Thanks.

My dealer told me when I bought my '01 that they could disable the DRLs. Then, after I bought it and asked them to do it, they said Toyota no longer allows them to disable DRLs. Bunch of BS if you ask me. Dealer is virtually no help - ever. After I disabled the DRLs myself, I asked the dealer about the high-beam indicator coming on. They said they couldn't help me because I performed an "unauthorized modification".
