distributor cap direction

On a 98 Dodge Ram, 1500. 5.2.
The distributor cap has a #1 on it for the first cyclinder. Does that #1 point to the drivers or passengers side. It can go on either way, and I forgot how I took it off:)

you need to look at a firing order diagram. most likely drivers side.

you could also put cyl #1 at TDC firing (engine off) and look to see which way the rotor is pointing, but the diagram is probably easier.
I have trouble believing that the engine would run if the firing angles were all 360 crank degrees out of phase (180 cam deg phase on distributor).
