Which would win in a race? I know people are gettin tired of answering this question but does anyone have a site that displays the times or power of cars (1/4mile, hp, torque etc.) Thx for answering any of those questions.

I'm going to be the first to say, anyone who drag races these cars is a waste of skin.
According to Road & Track, the S2000 runs to 60mph in 5.5 seconds, and the 1/4 in 14.2. They don't give a trap speed.
According to this here Mazda page
http://mazda.jbcarpages.com/RX8/2004/index4.php
The RX8 runs 60mph in 5.9 seconds, and the 1/4 in 14.5 seconds at 96mph.
The S2000 has an edge in acceleration, but neither of these cars are about drag racing. Take it to the track and compare some times, that's what I say :iceslolan

Co-worker of mine has an RX-8. They handle like they're on rails, but don't have the acceleration of the S2000, or S200 for that matter. ;)
Stock S2000 owners have managed to squeeze very high 13 second times in the 1/4 mile. Stock RX-8 owners have only been able to squeeze mid to low 14 second 1/4 mile times as far as I know.
The beauty of both these cars is the handling capabilities though.

I have not driven an 8 yet. I have however driven a stock S2000 in an Autocross practice day right after getting out of my RX-7.
The S2000 has no power down low - none - it is however one of the most agile cars I have driven in. After driving it I decided that my racing suspension was not up to par in my RX-7. It was an amazing car to toss around.
Oh and to answer your question. On paper the S-2000 wins in 1/4 mile. In real life it would be a very interesting race the better driver would win.
I have been next to S-2000's at the track that ran mid 15's because the driver was not insane. You have to be insane and launch your S-2000 at or near redline to get it out of the hole fast. Normal people that like their cars will not do that.

you have to take this into consideration. a RX8 traps at around 95mph running a 14.5 it takes a few ticks over 15 seconds to hit 100mph. a stock S2000 can run a 14.1 at 100mph. so if you look at it this way, a stock S2000 will hit 100mph more then a full second faster then what a stock RX8 can. that will give you a better illustration in the difference in speed. the RX8 have absolutely no balls, and most of the owners are idiots who don't know shit about cars, and thinks the car is a rocket lolz. they take the cake for the most uninformed group of car enthusist. most of their defense is this, "my car looks nice" and they dog on the evo and the sti so bad and call them ugly can cheap cars, and they don't care about performance. those RX8 guys only care if their car looks fast. they don't really care if its not fast, or that mazda fucked them over. as with most of us true car lovers, love the car for they way they perform rather then the way they look.

Well, the RX-8's looks aside (it's an attractive car, I'll say that much, but it's no Bugatti 57SC Atlantic or Ferrari 250GTO), I've found that they are very spirited cars that deliver performance comparable to other cars in its market segment.
It'll trounce upon the Chrysler Crossfire/Mercedes SLK pairing and give BMW 330ci owners fits, but can be humbled by an Infiniti G35 coupe. It handles incredibly well, practically dancing through corners, and the shift action is heavenly. Seriously, there are only three other cars I've gone through the gears in that I've liked more.
Those are;
Layla (my 1970 MGB GT, gotta love straight cut gears)
my cousin Barry's carbureted Ferrari 308GTB (I don't care if it is slower to use the classic gated shifter, I'll always choose it before I choose paddle-shifting)
1967 Corvette 427 roadster (another of cousin Barry's collection. It has the legendary Muncie M22 Rockcrusher 4speed and, I gotta tell you, it is one solid feeling tranny. I drove the thing three times, once in anger, and never EVER missed a shift)
I wouldn't call the RX-8 a rip-off. No, it doesn't do well compared to the Honda S2000. But it was never meant to compare to the S2000. It's Mazda's individualistic statement in the crowded and hyper-competitive $30,000-$40,000 sport coupe market. It draws in people who are attracted to the rotary legend (or myth as the case may be) or the styling, and then delivers a rewarding driving experience with a modicum of practicality.
Quite honestly, I'd say that it's a pretty marvelous car when you look at it from that perspective.

Which RX8, the 180bhp or the 228bhp. Here in good old blighty were the sun never shines, we have both. Once the mod boys bring out some goodies for the RX8 like full de-cat I would say it will then have the edge in both pick up and top speed, as cats kill the wankler engine. some'et like that anyway. Could be talking a load of holicks :screwy:

we have both here too on this side of the pond...and we ussually default to the 6 speed 228hp model
and if we bring out the mods argument for the rx8 we can do the same for the s2000...
one thing about using somewhat extreme exaust mods like the use of a race pipe(de-cat as you call it)...make sure the ecu doesnt mess up the AF ratio....some cars have a tendency to lean our or in some the ECU will overcompensate and run rich....of course it depends on the car

Yeah, the only think I dont like about the 8's is the fact that they're breaking even faster then the FD 7's ever did. Jeezus mazda, get a clue already.

I'll start off by saying I know about as much about rotary engines as I do about Barbie dolls and hair curlers. That being said...I know an RX-8 owner that said the 0-60mph and 1/4 mile times published in recent magazines we're all laughing at have been recorded with a totally different exaust system then the standard package offered for actual retail...at least in the US. Apparently the "magazine racer" RX-8 had a less restrictive catalytic converter that failed to pass 100k mile durability smog regulations within the US. I'm getting the information second hand, but with an extra 20hp-30hp (not to mention low end torque) some of the performance statistics I'm reading seem to line up a little better.

well the reason why i say its fucked up of mazda is beucsae they have a history of over rating their cars, and they always get caught. they could've done something decent and fix the problem by adding more power instead of just lowering the rating. i mean when the RX-8 first came out i had alot of faith in it. the car was suppose this system where the 3rd intake port was suppose to open at a certain time. it would give it a v-tec feeling from 6K rpm on. and give it the full 250hp. however when sport compact car dynoed it they noticed the power curve fell flat on its face after 6K. and it gvae the car the same rating as the base model. i thought mazda would fix this problem esp how after they got caught. but instead they just decided to buy the car back, and lower the rating instead of actualy tryin to fix the problme and turn a good car into a great car.

I hate to say it but the RX-8 is weak, no comparsion to the 7. I beat one a few weeks ago by about 5 car lengths without the bottle.

Riiiiight, and sit there like a newbie burning out :uhoh:
I think the rx8 has much more potential than the s2000 specially the motor that comes with the automatic tranny, even though it has less horsepower stock the four port engine has much more potential than the shitty six port on the manual rx8.
Although I took that from a friend that has a wedding ring the shape of a rotor, I personally like the curves of the s2000 better.

Umm, the S2000 has almost no torque, only 153 at its torque peak, which i believe is at 8300 rpm. I don think that is enough for a burnout, specially if you are at a drag strip.

ok maybe I was exagerating when I said it would SIT there but it will have a shitty launch if you launch near redline. Im not talking theory or numbers here, Im talking from what Ive seen.

Your talking about a car with no torque, it would have a better launch then you might think, this thing has no torque, i can launch my FWD car from 2500 anytime when its dry out on any roads, with it making approx 150-180 ft(peak of 240 ft-lbs at 4800 rpm) -lbs of torque, and have no wheel spin what so ever, not even a chrip (kinda sad eh?). So you dont think a RWD car, which has much better physics, would have better luck with 150 ft-lbs?

If you notice my quote was from someone saying launching near redline, the cars redline is 9krpm max torque is around 7,500 I think, peak hp of 240 around 8,300rpm
my car is fwd too, I have 180hp and 126ft-lbs, if I launch near redline I will spin like crazy, my normal launch at the track is around 3,500rpm for a little bit of wheel spin but better than launching at idle with very little torque. And like I said before, I was talking from what Ive seen at the track not what I think from looking at numbers. By the way, just wondering what kind of car do you have that is fwd and 240ft-lbs?? sounds like srt4

i launch at about 2500..
very little spin, pretty much just takes off. Integra..
i had a totalled integra a while ago that i beat the HELL out of before i gave it to the insurance company. i revved it to the rev limiter and dropped the clutch (redlines at 6500, revved it to 6800). spun forever, never stopped until i let off the gas, and this was with grippier than stock tires on aftermarket 15s, bridgestone potenzas (195/50zr15). wasnt much done to it either, just intake, exhaust, straight pipe, ecu.
