Possible engine failure

Would like to get advise on a problem with my 95 Civic.
Today (for the first time) it overheated to high mark without giving
much symptoms and thick white smoke started to come from exhaust.
Talked to Honda deater mechanic and he says it is an internal engine problem and only way to fix is to repair teh engine. He rules out all other possibilities since we have seen overheating and smoke.

I would like to hear from experts out there on whether this is the right assumption or not? Could it be possibly due to something other than an engine failure. Now, this is a well maintained car and was running smoothly till today.

Thanks
Jay

Honestly, I think you already asked the experts and just don't want it to be true. In my opinion, I think they are right. Those problems don't sound like it could be something minor, and I'm thinking that it's something serious. At first I was just thinking you had some bad hoses or something and that's why it overheated. But then you said thick white clouds of smoke came out the exhaust, so that kinda rules out that idea. So I honestly think that the Honda dealer mechanic knows what he's talking about. Sorry 'bout your luck.

sounds like a head gasket, look out though man!! most dealers will rip you a new asshole to get that fixed. if it is the head hopefully it or the block surface isnt warped or you didnt dump to much coolent into the cylinders and cause a rod to bend or other nasty little things. best advice i can give you is if you dont feel confident about thier diagnosis get a second opinion.

it it internal...the head gasket probably went out(or the deck and head surfaces warped, then let coolant and oil mix together...Your rings are probably fried and they probably scarred the cylinder walls while frying...

I think it's time to swap...buy my motor...;)

Head gasket...maybe more (you won't know until you start tearing it apart).

There are head exchange shops...you give them your head and they charge you less for a rebuilt one. If you didn't damage the block...you are in there like swimwear.

Get a manual and do it yourself...you will only spend about 1/3 (or less) what a shop would charge just to do the gasket and resurface the head.

Id say at the least your head is warped. When an aluminum engine overheats, id say 90% of the time the head warps. Due to the fact alum melts at a lower temp than pig/cast iron. thats what sucks about alum heads, they warp pretty quick if the engine overheats.... Sorry to say, but id look into geting a swap, or a USED engine (dont get a new or rebuilt engine, thats a rip off)
