Ive seen some posts where some people have said they use like 94-95 octane gas . where the hell do yall live ?? In st.louis and here in florida all I have come across is 93 at the highest , which is pretty much as low as i will go for my car . O yea , if I were to put octane boost in my gsr , would it be safe ?? or is that only for race cars ??

Don't complain, the highest I have around my area is 91. ONE time I saw 92, but thats it. Octane booster will be fine, it wont do any harm.

octain booster is a waste. on a stock(slightly moded) sometimes the higher octane will hurt the hp numbers because the ecu is programed for poorer fuel grades.

plus if ya notice, it says minimum octane rating which usually means its about 1-2 points higher. so when it says 96.5 minimum octain rating here it usually means 98 or so.

91 is the highest here. 86+ is recomended for my car. but i use 91. i get better gas mileage and car runs smoother. its gona be better for the engine in the long run.

91-92 is tops around here also, so thats what i use, i have a GSR so thats what is recodmended, therefor i use it. i also used it in my 87 ls with 266K on it, it ran a little smoother and i think helped it run as long as it has.

A waste yeah, but if hes running around with a full tank and its already in there, I dont think it will hurt at all. Its still gonna ignite, just a little easier.

i use 87 for my rs, and i was wondering about this approach. i fill up with premium like..once a month to give it a "touch up" but stay with 87 the rest of the time. is this a waste? is the concept correct? thanks

integrs, it wont matter about the other tanks because the high octane gas is burned and wont help the tank after it, if you do what i do and wait until its been on orange for a while

spectre927, I was saying that bang for the buck, it is a waste, yea it will help your motor, but do you really want to pay 5 bucks to increase you octane rating from 96.5(98 in reality) to 100, which migh even hurt hp numbers with a stock fuel map???

No you're right, it is a waste. I mean if I had more modded ride I'd probly put some in just for the hell of it before I went to the track. I tried it once just to see though, couldnt even tell. I was saying if he'd already put it in there I didnt want him worrying that his car would be slower. I still dont see why it would hurt the performance though. It seems like its similar to a grounding kit or better spark plugs, something to that affect, but clearly not as effective.

Before I go to the track, I make my best power w/ 105 octane, and start loosing power the higher I go after that.So I usually have like a gallon left of friday night, so I just slap 1.5 gallons of cool blu 105 and I'm off to the track.

The highest common grade here is 96.5 and some stations still have 97.5

Higher the octane, the more compression/spark you need to ignite it. If you have a realy high HP all drag motor alot of times it runs on like 115+ octange and they have to spray 87 octane down the intake just to get it to ignite. the lower the octane rating the easyer it is to ignite.
Highest pump gas here is 94, alot of stations have Cam2 leaded and unleaded and i belive those are around 115. I usally use 89 on my LS, 94 is just a waste, i dont notice any difference from it but 87 to 89 it does seem to run a little better at idle and higher RPMs

What the hell? Nope, sorry thats wrong. octane. The more octane, the more it can HANDLE as far as compression goes. It doesnt need compression to ignite, it can handle more compression before it spontaneously ignites. It will spontaneously combust but the higher the octane rating, the higher the compression needed to combust it.

Leaded gasoline is practically illegal. Lead really doesnt do anything good for the environement. MTBE is what is used now. Ethanol is also better but more expensive, however out of the three it is the safest.
