Integra GSI vs VTI-r

Hi All,
Im a newbie to Hondas . My current ride is a 92 180SX which I have had for 5 years.
Im looking at getting something that is cheaper to run and insure so I was thinking about an integra.
I dont know alot about these cars but Im guessing the gsi is just you run of the mill 1.8 and the vti-r is the vtec version.
What difference is the type R ?
Im looking at getting between a 95- 98 , dont want to spend any more than 20Gs .
Or is it better to get a VTI civic
What is the reliability like with these engines , as I will most likely get something that has anywhere from 40-80K on the clock , is there anything special to look out for ?
Its going to be hard getting used to a non turbo front wheel drive car but as I said before , the 180 does cost alot to run and insure

Type R is basically a road legal race car. Hot cams, exhaust computer - the lot. And a LOT of tortional stiffness and lot of weight reduction.

My choice would be a really schmick and modded 6th gen Civic VTiR. Fits all your criteria and they get up and GO!

To my experience, if regularly maintened, & proper service intervals followed, reliability is excellent for Honda vehicles.

You're looking at spending no more than 20g's. I'd go with 'Oz' on the EK (95-98) Civic Vti-R. Don't know how much less insurance would be compared to the 180, guess it would be cheaper anyhow.

In perspective, the 6th gen civic vti-r puts out 118kw, integra Gsi 103kw, integra vti-r 125kw & Type-R 140kw.

I guess the non-vtec Gsi might be cheaper on insurance though.

Anyhow, having driven my mates MR2 GT, and jumping back into my n/a fwd, it is VERY different.

With some quality cams, cam gears, an exhaust and a bit of tuning you can quite easily pull 140kW out of the B1A Civic VTiR motor. :D

Scorching little hot hatch - yet still anonymous enough to avoid unwanted attention.

I would go the VTIR teg out of those options. With the EK vtir, you really have to rev it to get it going anywhere...just remember that even though its a hatch, its not that much lighter than a VTIR teg....

The vtec in the VTIR teg is more refined...and more of a cruisy car....

having both cars at home, I would go the teg but I'm biased ;)

Oh, and you may be suprised but insurance is actually quite hefty on hondas...do some research, and call some insurers.

Of course you are biased, Q. The cams on my new baby don't even feel ón'till about 5k rpm and go all the way through to nearly 9k.

hahaha...yeah...but we have both a vtir teg and vtir civic in our family, so have enough experience driving both to know what I prefer....

Oh, and I drove my cousin's new prelude...97 model VTIR....was ok...but just didn't feel like it had the grunt....also had really crappy clutch which didn't help...

Yeah, I just replaced my motor at 260,000km's. Went good til the end, needed work I couldnt justify giving it, so went a swap. Cost bugger all too.

Same motor as before for those who dont know, just, healthier.

Get VTi-R, don't buy a non VTEC teg! u will regret it.
If u can get an import Type-R within your budget, go for the Type-R, u will love it!
I bought a brand new VTi-R in Jan94, run great for 5 years till my bro crazy for Rex n he took my teg and trade it in :mad:
I am too crazy for teg, now I own JDM 93 Si-VTEC 2dr auto with TCS and JDM 97 Si-R. Going to let go the 93 Si-VTEC, coz there's a fish pond at the rear spare tire area. :banghead:

Honda/Acura own: now/before

95 Civic VTi (Hatch)
94 Accord VTi-S (Sedan)
94 Integra VTi-R (Coupe)
93 Integra Si-VTEC (Coupe)
97 Integra Si-R (Coupe) Type-R front-end
