'87 Maxima Computer Problems

Hello everyone,

I own an '87 Maxima. I bought it dirt cheap for $1000 about 3 years ago. When I bought it, it had nothing wrong with it except a nice florida sun-bake. About a year goes by and I start having serious engine/fuel problems. I suspected it was because it sat for 2 years before I bought it.

So, I spent about 2 grand on a tune up/overhaul. The car was running better, but not perfect. So, I took my car to a local Nissan shop. The people there kept telling me that the computer system (ECU) was broken and needed to be replaced. It has been in the shop now since 2002. Apparently, the ECU is hard to find for the '87.

My questions are:
1.) What kind of ECU can I use to replace the stock one?
2.) Since I now have a '92 SE 5spd and want to sell this car, what is the cheapest/easiest fix for my problem?
3.) Is it even worth the time or money to fix it?

I have spent a total of 6 grand on this car and it still isn't working properly (I personally think the shop is screwing me, but I have no proof). I'd appreciate any feedback or suggestions.
