Tiff UK Speed Record

I recently watched a vid about Tiff Needell (great guy) breaking the UK speed record in the McLaren F1. The average speed was 193 mph and the top was not much higher than 200. They said that they had reached the highest that they would get not because of the track, but because of the tire blisters. I know the F1 can go faster than this. What gives?

The track at MIRA in the UK was rather short - only 4.5Kms - and had high banking all the way around the turns. It's simply not a fast enough track to allow for the F1 to stretch it's legs, but it is the fastest track in the UK which is why it was used to set the UK top speed record.
Also, because of the almost constant turning and angle of banking on the track, this generates very high heat in the tires, especially the ones on the outside which is what caused the blistering.
The tracks at Nardo, and Ehra Leissen where the F1 set other speed records are much more suited to that type of top speed testing. There are also two tracks in the US, one in Fort Stockton, TX and the other in East Liberty, OH that would be better places to attempt to stretch the legs on a car like the F1.

Its very rare for Peloton25 to get these things wrong I find but the record attempt was actually on Millbrook's high speed bowl rather than at MIRA ;) This would account for the high rate of blistering as it like one big high velocity corner.

Hope this helps.

I recently watched a vid about Tiff Needell (great guy) breaking the UK speed record in the McLaren F1.
The UK land speed record is 272mph :)

I appreciate the compliment and apologize for the error. I had it in the back of my mind that the track in question was a complete circle, and was somewhat confused when the MIRA track appeared to have three straight sections. I know that the F1 did set some kind of lap record at MIRA - I even have a copy of the text. Oh well, you can't win them all as they say. ;) Millbrook it was, and I thank you for correcting me.
CeeJay- The speed record that Tiff broke was more than likely for a closed course, or track. There are probably 100 different categories for people to claim as a unique speed record. You should check out the classifications at the Bonneville Salt Flats every year - it's nearly limitless the amount of different classes they have, from motorbikes to jet-powered rocket cars.

Yeah, go to racingflix.com you need to register to get the video, but its free unless you upgrade. i joined a month ago to get one video, since i have downloaded 15. They have lots of Top Gear stuff.
To find it look under browse videos (under videos) and click on road tests, i think its like halfway down the page.

on Kazaa and didn't see it there.
Oh, peloton, the record that was set at MIRA was the lap record for
that circuit.

Actually, let me rephrase my sentence. The site wouldn't let it work. I did try to get it off racingflix...when it was supposed to send me the activation code, I got this:
Error
Due to technical problems, we could not email you your Activation Code. Please try again.
So then I tryed and tryed some more. Then I went to racingflix contact us to notify them and once again, there is a technical problem. So then I e-mailed [email protected] and no replies yet. (this all happened yesterday and today it still won't let me register) Doesn't it seem like this would only happen to me?

It's because so many people use it. The bandwidth is just completely eaten up

Nope. You need to be a paying member for better speeds. Free downloaders are speed restricted.
