A lot of time on the computer = Damaged eye sight?

Does staring at a computer screen too much have any negative effects on your eye sight? Reason I ask is because the other day I went to get my license renewed, and found out I had 20/60 vision in my left eye, when a year ago it was 20/20 or 20/30. In the past year I have been spending much more time on the computer, but could this really be whats causing my eye sight to get worse?

Just to be more specific, during the week I spend about 1.5-2 hours on the computer a day, and on the weekends more, maybe 2-4 hours a day.

Yeah. Your eyes eventually get accustomed to being close to whatever you are viewing. Eventually that's where your best vision will be.

Sorry that I'm typing this big, but I can't see the writing properly anymore. Can you make yours bigger? I'm not too sure what this post is about...

Yes being on the computer a lot will damage your eyesight. It will make you near-sighted. And you think your eyesight is bad? Mine went from 20/20 to 20/70 in less than 8 months. But it wasnt because I was spending time on the computer....it happened when I stopped playing tennis. I dont know why mine got so bad. Oh well.

My eyesight was never effected. I've been a pretty heavy user of the computer since I was little. I hope it doesn't start killing my sight. Oh well...

Unfortunately, heavy computer use does have detrimental effects to ones eyesight. The only way to -possibly- avoid it is when you do use the computer for long periods of time, take a break every half hour and look outside and focus on objects are farther distances.
