WOndering what your Gas Mileage is.... I have owned 2 Suburbans

1)2001 Suburban 4X4 with 5.3 Engine and 3:73 Axle... I would get 12-14mpg Driving around town a with a Mix of Highway and Stop and Go.. and approx 12-13mpg Towing my 3000 lb boat

2)My current Vehicle 1999 Suburban 1500 4X4 with 5.7 Engine and 3:73 Axle... I get 13-16 mpg in a mix of driving and 14 towing my 3000 lb boat across the state.. I think my older body Suburban is better on gas! Also really like the Huge 42 gallon Tank for Road Trips..

Both Tow my boat fine, but the older 5.7 seems so much more relaxed around town towing.

I have a 95 stock 1500 sub. i get about 15-16 mpg. i think these are pretty typical stats. i know that the newer trucks (burbs too) from like 2001 and up actually get WORSE gas mileage. my mom has an 01, and my 85 pickup had better gas mileage. sad huh?

I have a 1995 LT 1500 2WD with a 350. When I bought it in 1999, the gas mileage was 16 mpg with 8 people on board plus camping gear. Now, I think it is about 14 mpg.

I have a 2001 K2500 8.1L, 3.73 ratio and I get 15 highway @ 70mph on cruise, about 12-13 around town stop and go, and about 14 on the highway towing my 4500 pound boat.
I pulled my former boat which weighed in at 9500 pounds up to Lake Tahoe and passed cars going uphill like crazy. I love that engine!

My old burb was a 1992 K1500 5.7L, 3.73 and I got about 15 mph on the highway and around 10-11 around town. I got about 9-10 pulling my 4000 pound boat.

My '94 454 TBI 4x4 (40,000 mi) gets a whooping 11 mpg on the hwy and about 9.5 around town. Just 8.5 pulling my 3000 lb boat. I installed a Banks Power Pack which greatly improved performance from start to redline but did nothing for the mileage.

ha ha ha...i'm rocking about 6-8 around town on a 95 burban (350 V8); hell i get almost twice that towing my 25 ft. ski boat with 4 sea doo's on top...

However i gotta admit i don't think my custom box housing 4 12's and almost 5 gallons of resin/mekp (hardener) helped that situation any... :banghead:

...oh yeah, did i mention that of the 113k miles, almost 60% are towing?

I'm the original owner of an 86 that currently has 215,000 miles. The first few years that I had it I checked the mileage very closely, 16.3 mpg average. For many years I had company cars so the old land barge became a recreational vehicle, so I didn't pay attention to the mileage. A couple of years ago it became my commuter vehicle, so I'm checking mileage again, 11 mpg average.

I have a '97 LT 5.7 (no idea bout the rear end) just drove it cross country got 15 mpg towing a car @70 mph but dropped to 6 @ 85 through Nebraska. As a commuter rig I get 15 - 17 depending on how fast I want to get home 72 mph seems to be about the tipping point.

I am not getting anything close to that. I have a 1999 2500 Suburban 454 engine, just tuned. I am getting 6 to 7 MPG in city driving, 12 on the highway, 8.8 on the highway towing 4000 pounds. How can I improve?

I got 8 to 9 mpg before the cat ran away and new 3" exhaust to replace the 2 1/2" that the PO put on when it should of had 3" exhaust, sticky calipers. I haven't drove it to check if it makes any difference.

I have a 99 Suburban 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 454 and 4:10 rear end with Large ovrsized off-road tires and ended up taken a little trip to Laughlin, NV which is about 1 1/2 hours South of Las Vegas.

For the most part, I averaged 9.3617 MPG roundtrip total miles were 248.

I lose some milage due to the oversize tires and driving approximately 75 MPH.

Not bad mileage considering the set-up of my Suburban!

Just took my 99 on it's first trip after installing a K&N Cold air intake. I highly recommend this. When we went last time I got 13 there & 15 back. After the K&N, We got 15 up at 75mph, & close to 20 on the way home at 70-72(which difintely seems to be the tipping point)

Next step is to buy a programmer to advance the timing, change the shift points, etc. Can't decide between the hypertech and the Diablo I think. Any advice on those would be helpful.

Hope this helps. I know of an 8.1 in a 2500 that went from 8 to 14 just with the programming change.

I have a 1990 with 195K and get 14 to 15 mpg. This is about 1/2 and 1/2 city and highway. I do not do one or the other exclusively to know the details of each.

edited to add is the 2wd with 350. Just stock.

I have a 97 K1500 4x4 with 3:73?. I installed a K&N FIPK induction kit. Accell Super Tuner Truck Ignition Kit(plugs, wires, cap and rotor). MSD High output Coil, K&N(now JBA) catback exhaust 3", Vortec Velocity Stack(this does not seem to do anything but what the hey) Plus I recently took it to the shop and had the fuel injection system cleaned.
I have 102,000 on her and she gets about 15MPG.
Since you are hear....My truck when you are on the highway cruising at about 65-70mph, if you press on the gas it boggs down and only when you continue to press the accelerator down (almost to the floor) does if finally shift into a passing gear(then it sounds like its going to blow up).?? I thought that replacing all that stuff would help with this but??? Any suggestion appreciated.

phonix,

I have a 99 2500 454 and was posting the same numbers you were. I put a K&N filtercharger II with a Flowmaster cat back system with a single 3 1/2 outlet also put on a MSD ignition with multispark.
My numbers now are 14.7 highway 11.4 around town and 10.8 towing my 6800 lb boat & trailer.
This really made my big block breath the way it needs to. Its not for the faint of heart as it does produce quite a bit of rumble and the extra power is really a blast to drive
