Started on the Tamiya GT2 club sport kit. Going to try to make it the street version.

Since I have already posted the thread on filling in the racing interior floor and maiing floor mats, I am going to continue.

First the wheels, while an excellent rendition of the BBS LMs they needed a lot of work, dark wash, gold centers, center knock offs and red annodized clips in the centers....here they are:

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/6_G.sized.jpg

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/7_G.sized.jpg

Here is the racing hraness, holes enlarged, ribbon seat belt harness, photoetch buckles, carbon fiber backing, manufacturers markings and most importantly seat railing, with rail clips and photoetch tie down hardware.

So what do we think so far?

Its little fine details like this which make a model great, wheels look good esp with the red anodised clips. Seat looks great as it is.

Im sure that this will turn out great!!!

here is the sneak peak of whats going to be happening with the model:

Subtle modifictions include new grille, opening and hinged doors, opening and hinged enigne lid (possibly an engine as well)

The car pictured is a 964... the car being modelled is a 993 (ie the enxt generation). I think Fujimi do a couple of 964 models which would be a better bet for replicating the car pictured.

The 993 looks good though, next on my list when I get my 996 GT3 finished...

Finished the dash board. This kit has some definnate identity problems... the dash board is clearly a race variant, so I tried to make it look more like a street car. Take a look:

Started putting in the suspension components and test fitting working features:

Flocked interior with photoetch pedals, dead pedal, the floor was completely filled with sheet styrene and covered by flocking as well as new molded dead pedal space, etc.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/1_G_004.sized.jpg

The floor mats are from my "how to" section.

Also covered the side panels and resin door sill in carbon fiber. Tried to replicate "patches" carbon fiber work as you can see in real car, where there are patches with different weave of carbon fiber in different parts.

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/2_G_004.sized.jpg

the rivets are photoetched and the resin door surround is from Renaissance

Test fitting the door, interior and chasis components and wheels...

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/3_G_003.sized.jpg

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/4_G_002.sized.jpg

Dash board test fitted on to the completed roll cage:
http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/5_G_002.sized.jpg

Seat temporarily tacked in for the test fitting.

I need opinion on exterior color please... Here are the choices (that go well with red interior and the wheels) Black/Mettalic Black, Dark Blue Mettalic, Gloss Aluminum, Dark Gunmetal (although I have soooo many dark gunmental cars)

Please tell me which you think might be best. thanks.

WeaPoN [X]
01-06-2004, 03:10 PM
Is the dark blue metallic the one that looks black in the shade and blue when sun hits it, if so Blue Metallic all the way! what is the TS-?? number, so I can look at it when I go to my LHS. plus with the gold rims, definatly a winner. Either blacks would be my second choice.

BTW: doors are spot on! keep it up.

slk320...You are doing things with this model I never thought possible!!
That carpeting and floor mat treatment with "Sparco" embroiderey...the vinyl heel patch under the foot pedals...the incredible seats with railing? The rivets on the doors...the cf treatment...the altered dash...sweet! And the opeing doors and you even carpeted the front trunk!
Make that engine money...I saw the detalailed engine in the gun metal 510 you made, no doubt you'll top it.
You've done pretty much everything, why not make the wheels steerable from the steering wheel and f/r lights operational, then make a working differential for the back wheels :)

Ive only been here a few months and ive never seen your work but i knew that after seeing the first few pics i knew that this model was going to be something special,i just love the intricate details that you have put into this project, trully amazing work, as far as i can see i cant fault this model.Well Done!!!!!

I have one question the black wash on the seats seems a bit thick,is this to simulate black stitching?

http://www.joeyandmona.com/albums/album107/4_G.sized.jpg

slk320
01-10-2004, 10:40 AM
The black wash is sort of an experiment. I bought wome very fine .005 black markers and I wanted to create the effect of depth... my whole thing is sometimes "in-scale" does not give the same effect as something bold. I use 1/20 scale carbn fiber weave, for example, in order to achieve a good 1/24 scale look.

So the black wash is sort of an "experimental" panel line marker use... may be I have to tone it down a bit... but it doesn't look too bad once its in the interior surrounded by all the junk..

BTW - body is painted witht he first 3 coats, now waiting to dry, polish and final wet coats applied.
