Can't go forward...only in reverse

All of a sudden my car no longer moves forward. It will go in reverse. I had to leave it on the side of the road. Any ideas of what might be wrong? Thanks.

Put it in drive. Just kidding!

I would guess transmission. Was it "slipping" at all prior to this?

check the fluid level in the tranny first, do this wile idling in park. i'd say you probably broke a band in the tranny and need a rebuild. i'm sorry

yeah I have had this happen to my first car. My reverse went out, I drove it that way for over a month... never realized what a pain in the ass it is to find a parking spot that you dont have to back out of.I had no chance of ever pushing it out of a spot it being a Chevy Caprice

The cause of your problems may be as simple as low or no fluid. Next check to see if the linkage is working properly. If all external checks are OK then the most likely cause is the front clutch assembly may have failed but you should have noticed engine flaring and slipping before hand.

Bands in a Chrysler transmission are only applied in reverse so this wouldn't be the problem.

Good Luck.

Are you sure about the bands? We have a '96 Caravan 3.0 liter 3-speed that has a bad main axle seal, so it leaks tranny fluid badly. Once, the fluid got too low and the transmission started slipping terribly in the forward gears, even when full of fluid. We tightened the bands about 1/4 turn and now it works much better, though it shifts a little rougher.
