Exhaust Question

I posted this question somewhere else and never got a response so... I'll try it here, maybe with better luck.

I just put on a cat-back magnaflow exhaust system with straight through mufflers and dropped one of the two resonators. It is extremely loud from 1k to 3krpm's. After 3k rpm's the exhaust tone pretty much goes quite??? Is this normal? I just want to make sure everything is working properly and generally when I hear a car take off it gets louder as the rpm's get higher?

no, the exhaust is loud at lower RPM's.
that's normal with loud mufflers.
at higher RPM's the exhaust is flowing fast enough
that it does not restirct, and it actually "flows through" like it's designed to.
that's where you get the power, at the higher RPM's.

Generally, they do. But Magnaflows are quieter than many aftermarket mufflers, and you most likely removed the resonator that takes care of the buzz at about 2K RPM, IIRC. If you don't like the noise down low (I prefer quieter cars myself) you can put it back on.

I have a magnaflow too. Mine is really loud between 1300 and 1800 rpms and then goes away until it reaches 2500 rpms or I'm really gunning it. I don't understand it.

Did your gas mileage go down? Mine went down 3-4 mpg when I upgraded my exhaust. I don't understand that either.

Exhaust Harmonics based upon exhaust pulses affected by air speed and density effect sound depending on the the RPM and size of the engine.

3 to 4 MPG means something is wrong with the engine not the exhaust, your probley running extremely rich, that could mean your CO2 sensor isn't wokring correctly or mabey the MAF, i'm not shure how much one sensor effects engine operation.
