Last week my dealer told me I needed to replace my Oxygen Sensors because the Check Engine light was on. I went to Auto Zone over the weekend and they used a computer to check engine codes for the problem. The error that came up was P0401 Apparently the problem is the EGR Valve.
Does anyone know where one might find one of these at a reasonable price - the Audi dealer is very expensive.
Thanks and Happy New Year

Is your car a 2.8 2 valve. If so it may be a bad EGR solenoid or the EGR port in the intake manifold is clogged!!! I am an Audi tech and see that more than I do EGR valves going bad !!!!! I'll look to see what P0401 is!!!

Thanks I really appreciate the help. My car is a 1996 A4 Quatro with the early 12 valve engine I believe. I've also read that the issue is typically carbon clogging in the throttle body and EGR valve and cleaning usually fixes it. Is this difficult to do - I am a mechanical engineer and am usually not afraid to tackle this type of job if it can be done in a couple hours.
I've also been told my problem is one of the 4 Oxygen sensors, though the code, P0401 indicates EGR.

If the vehicle is a 2.8, 2 Valve engine. I would say the EGR Port in the intake manifold is clogged. And possibly a problem with the egr solenoid. I'll research the code if I can remember>

I'm having the same problem... What exactly did you do to clean the manifold? How do you clear the code? thanks for the help!

i took the car to autozaone, where they read the code and let me clear it. then i loosened up the hoseclamp on the egr side of the air intake, sprayed some throttle cleaner on the insides of the intake, and hooked it back together. let the car warm up, drove for bout a mile, and now running smoothly.
