Thinking about upgrading wheels from stock 16" to 18" wheels and tires.
I have a 1999 4-Matic. Would like to know if the ride comfort will be affected??

I have a 1994 E 320 and I put some 18 inch wheels and tires on it. I felt every bump on the road but for the look I was able to deal with the rough ride, now the danger came after I took them off because I got tired of not being able to have 4 adults in the car at one time without it scrubing. after about two weeks I started loosing break fluid (all of it) checked the two front lines and the wide tires had rubbed a hole in each line. Now you can move the line and tighten it so that it is away from the tire but who knows I just wouldnt go past 17 inch tires good luck. I

Everyone thinks they know more about wheel and tire size than Mercedes engineers. Going plus 2 (17") or more will accomplish two negative results: Very uncomfortable ride revealing every pebble and every crack in the road, and rapid tire wear allowing less than 20,000 miles. Mercedes has always been a class car not a Honda. By adding huge wheels and tires reveals something about the driver, usually not complimentary. Most models have supensions tuned to wheel fitment. ////AMG models from MB have very low profile tires but have the suspension to match. P.

I roll a 97' E320 and just had 20" rims with 225/35/20 tires .. which i "expected" to ride like crap. But in fact rides hella smooth, just gotta watch out for potholes & RR tracks. But i had NO problems with clearance/turning/rubbing. Rides super smooth other than what i mention about potholes, manhole covers,RR tracks. I mean anytime you reduce sidewall space ...the ride has less absorbtion. But i tell you what ..LOOKS DAMNNNN GOOD !!

Big wheels look cool, but are very bad for your wallet. Those tires are really expensive.

hahahaha....so true ! But... i was saving for rimz/tirez for my 76' Monte Carlo.... so i was already prepared to shell out some $$$ one way or another. But seriously the total diameter of the wheel/tire combo is SO close to stock that it does NOT affect the car as much as people think. Big Rims with larger profile tires sometimes change the dynamics of the speedo and abs computer aspects...but ONLY on BIG rime/tire combos. And as far as the "character" of the Driver...haha....i dont think wheel/tire selection is the "determining factor" in that dept. I just like to stick with the philosiphy of my wise-azz..i mean wise ol' grandpa...GO BIG or dont go at all :)

later!

I put 17" chromes on my 00 e320. Didn't notice much change in the ride, big improvement on appearance.
