Ive got the check engine light, a reset does not get the light out for long. Instead of paying the dealer 79 dollars to simply check, is there a reasonably priced diagnostic tool that I can use on this 98 Rodeo?

Yep. If you want one that just reads codes, here you go: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46030

I just bought one from Checker Auto Parts, they seemed to have a good selection. The one I bought was on sale for $129, then a $30 dollar rebate, final cost $99.00.
See it at http://www.iequus.com/item.asp?cid=10&pid=3100

Plus there website supports all mfr's special codes

AutoZone offers FREE code checks here in Texas. They came out to my 2000 Rodeo in the parking lot, hooked up there code checker and told me the two codes that were causing my CEL to come on. When I asked the person how do you find out what the codes mean, she invited me back into the store and looked up the codes on her computer, then wrote down the ino on a piece of paper. I didn't even buy anything from them. That's good service and I will be back when I nee dto make a parts purchase.
