intake question

i want to scratchbuild a cold air intake. but im not sure what to take out from under the hood.

how much of the three peices (three black peices bottom left) should i cut away?
also, if i do cut that out, should i try to put something else there or just leave the empty space?

i personally would cut out the 2 right-most pieces. i wouldnt worry about filling it in because the air filter will be there. you can however try to make up the engine bay space if it looks too empty.

Not necessarily. i've seen cold air intakes on the same level as the valve cover. actually its much better to keep the filter high up. because, if u dont have a water guard (or whatever its called), water and debris will go into it forcing you to replace it.

well i didnt mean any offense before. my bad.

I would cut out all three peices, as they are all resonance boxes for the intake that come stock with the Civic. On the 1:1 they are all one big part, so if you only removed the rightmost parts, it would require you to cut the airbox in half which would just be pointless. Like shorty said, the short ram terminates in the engine bay and isn't that effective because it still sucks in the hot air from the engine bay; but the cold air goes outside of the bay to draw in cold air (hence the name). Most, however, go to the bottom of the car and forward, like he indicated, but turn directly right (toward the passenger side) into a void behind the bumper and ahead of the front passenger tire. Do a google search and you will see many, many examples.

thanks for the help guys, i found a bunch of pics on google where they left the furthest left section alone, and being that im affraid of the bay looking empty, im gonna do it that way.
