Ailing Alternator

Has anyone had problems with replacing an alternator, then having the new one fail. I felt a surge after about 50 miles then it wnt dead. The third one feels like its going too. What about the ac compressor or something else locking and bogging the engine, somehow killing the ALT??I'm Clueless as of yet! Any help 93 LT-1
