Brake Lights Won't work...Help!!!

OK folks, here's one for ya!! I am having a very serious problem getting the brake lights to work on a 1990 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer, 4 litre. Now keep in mind that I have changed both sockets, and bulbs on the rear. There is no power to the actual wire for the brake lights in the rear, or in the front on the left side where juction box is. There is also no fuse that I can find. Now keep in mind that someone has messed with the wiring in this thing something awful. I have also removed what I believe to be the brake light relay switch and am going to be replacing it. But there still is no power going to the brake lights. I am at my wits end trying to figure this thing out. :banghead: I have even checked the haynes manual for this vehicle, and although it is probably right the wiring is not. I do not know what to do or how to fix this problem. It has been suggested that I by-pass the existing wiring and wire it directly to the brake light switch. I would appreciate any suggestions that anybody can give. Or if you know anyone who wants to buy a piece of $%@&@ then let me know.

Thanks.

first off, throw the Hanyes manual away....go buy a Chiltons they are much better, secondly, check to see if you have power going to the brake switch under the dash...connected to the steering column or dash frame....
