When I bought my 2000 jetta, all that it came with was the valet key, so I recently purchased a remote off ebay, So I went in to talk to my dealer about it, and He said that I need to buy a whole other top half, which is $50 I thought that I could just buy the key blade, because you can interchange the key blades, why would I need to buy the whole other half, any thought or suggestions would be helpfull, because a brand new remote is $150.00 plus $35 programming fee. RIP OFF

you can usually find uncut blades on ebay, too. you can get those cut anywhere, I think. screw the whole front end replacement, unless it's a compatibility issue.

If you car didnt originally come with keyless entry it will not have the reciever module... you cant just use the fob to activate nothing... so you will need to install the reciever module in the car. No need to go to vw, you can go to ebay and purchase a bulldog security remote start/keyless entry for alot cheaper.

My Jetta DID come with a remote keyless entry, the people that owned it before I guess just lost them, so all I have is the valet key, There is no way I can get around the $35 programming fee, because since I don't have the original remote, they have to search the cars computer to find the code, the dealer explained it as an immobilizer feature.

...not necessarily.
my friend programmed his remote that he had gotten off of ebay. search the web for techniques on how to do this. he told me how to do it, but mine came with two fobs, so I never had to do it.

You can find instructions on how to program your remote in the owners manual, the only thing is I need 2 keys to do it, one in ignition and the other in car door, but since I don't have the original remote, I believe they have to go search the car computer to find the code to make this remote that was for another car work with mine, who knows, right now I really don't care about using the switch blade key I just want the remote so mabye Ill see if I can just order another valet key, they have to be cheaper, and then Ill just pay the $35 charge.
