Clutch Problems

I just put a new clutch in my 1987 CRX. It is slipping like a muther, but only in 4th and 5th. I scuffed the flywheel with sandpaper before installation. So are their any clutch savy honda nuts out there that can shed some light on my situation? :banghead:

my guess is that the cable needs adjusted. however, when i did mine i didn't adjust it. it is easiest for the clutch to slip in 4th or 5th.

I adjusted the cable it's almost flopping.I darn near have to push the pedal through the floor so it disengages so I know the clutch disc is getting full contact to the flywheel.Maybe the preasure plate is too weak?I'm going nuts here trying to figure it out.Have you heard of centerforce?I hear they're good, but exspensive.I miss screaming through the gears at 6800RPMs

3 Things
Did u machine the flywheel
Did u replace the pressure plate and throwout bearing
Did u break in the clutch? ie drive it easy for the first few hundred Kilmoeteres.. dotn take it above 3k rpms.

I did not machine the flywheel. However i did sand it.
I did replace everything disc throwout bearing and pressure plate.
As far as breaking it in yes and no I went easy for about 200mi.
At 3k rpms in first the cars only going 15mph.Is mine the only low geared crx?I thought all Si models had lowwer geared transmissions.I'm scared to death to wind it out now, for fear of it slipping again.ANY advise will be appreciated.Thank you.

A new clutch normally does not slip if the flywheel is still fine. In this case it is not fine. You shoudl have gotten it machined anyways... but you need to reomve the tranny again and machine the flywheel... unless u want to fry ur brand new clutch. There is no other solution to the problem.. anyone experienced mechanic will tell u... machine flywheel.
good luck

oh yah... sanding the flywheel is good simply to clean it form junk and debris. The reason you machine the flywheel is so that the pressure plate sits closer to the clutch. Over time the flywheel surface wears and the clutch has more room between the flywheel and pressure plate and therefore it does not grip well. Machining the flywheel produces a tighter fit between the clutch and pressure plate therefore stopping the slip.

i agree, one more thing about machining the flywheel is it is to make a flat surface, just like break rotors there will be groves from the last clutch and the new clutch will not line up obvously so there will be less surface area to grab

THANKS GUYS! I appreciate the 411.I'm not looking forward to the job but I know what has to be done at least.By the way Dan NICE CRX!Mine is a twin, only silver.no (cat)w/flowmaster.Does cold air intake give much more HP?

Im swapping in a DOHC. A cai will give 3hp at most. Its fast as hell as is but I want the DOHC since its so easy to swap.

Hell no! If you go to the right machine shop it should be balanced, otherwise it would wobble when they resurface it!DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!Just ask em they will tell you!!
