parking light trick?

wassup everyone... heres the dealio... i got hyper-white bulbs for my parking/turning signals for the front... now it looks horrible when just that parking light is on.. its like a dim almost greeenish color... but when im using the turn signal or hazard.. it has this nice white light.. i heard that theres a trick u can do that will make the parking lights brighter while still keeping the turn signal functionality... anyone know anything about this trick?? thanks for your help

I've heard of it, seen it, but would not recommend it as it is known to case some housing and reflector melting issues from the bulb being in it's higher wattage state on a constant basis.

Although this is true, it can be controled if you know what you're doing. I first ran into this problem with my 3rd pair of lights. OEM quality will handle the heat, but aftermarket ones have a problem with it. Its not the housing, but the dome inside the housing, that covers the turn signal. If you dont have this dome, then you'll most likely be ok. Dont push the wattage. For exampe, in my 3rd pair, my dome started to melt and it drooped down, melted on the bulb and killed the bulb. I used a soldering iron and started cutting away at the dome through the hole and took out what was left of it. From then on, I was fine. Then I decided to up the wattage from the original M14 to an M12 since they were the same bulb size but the M12 had alot more brightness. I loved it and it lasted me less then a week and it melted the socket. The bulb litterally melted itself out of the socket and lost connection. And the Socket was OEM btw. Now these are the horror stories.

Its really not that risky to do. You will most likey not come to these problems. I did because I always pushed the limits of my toys to see how far I can go. Why? just to understand and learn and also share with others such as yourself.

Brighten it with relays. How? I cant give you details since that was one of the few mods I did not do on my car. I'm sure you can search for it online.. or someone here will know the details of how to do it. The results of the relays? I have a dual filemant... when at parking lights alone, both filemants are lit and when it blinks, it blinks off. So it works backwards. It runs bright and flashes dim versus runs dim and flashes bright. I would recomend either this mod, flipping your wires, or no relays and just run with a bulb that has a higher wattage parking light filemant.

well ive been lookin online and in other forums... and everyone says the same thing... the simplest solution was just to reverse the wires... but they all say the same thing... it melts the harness... so i did a lil more surfing... and some people attest to Raybrig bulbs being brighter than stock n n super bright when the turn signal is used... i think i will just invest in that... thanks for your input...

So you're going with what I said last. Its the simplest way, and it works. But when it flashes... boy is it BRIGHT!!!! lol. You'll like it. Raybrigs are really good quality bulbs.

What it comes down to in the end is bulb wattage. Some bulbs have higher ratings than others, thus they are brighter. My rear yellow blinker bulbs are 35/8w That's as bright as you can get from an 1157 type bulb such as what you are looking for. The Polarg M12 is a 35/5w bulb. The higher the 2nd number, the brighter it'll be when in the parking light mode. The first number is how bright it'll be when it's blinking. Typically OEM bulbs are 21/5w I'm very partial to my Sylvania Silver Star corner/signal bulbs, they are 27/8w rated which is PLENTY bright enough I can assure you. :D :cool:

you know wut i want to do... im gonna set up a system... where its a clean white light when the parking light is on.. n then amber when it signals.. hahaha.. using two sets of bulbs... the amber being dipped in the chrome paint...

Would it be possible to get some sort of high-heat resistant clear coat and apply it to the inside of the housing?

they said that its not the housing that melts.. but the actual bulb harness...

That's true, but I did have a problem with the 2nd set of 90/100 watt "Hiper Industry" hyperwhite bulbs that I got to my housings. After a short while of having them I noticed a hazy fog looking spot that formed on the part of the mirrored reflector housing directly above the bulb. I thought maybe it was condensation at first. But it never went away and I didn't have any condensation inside sine they were my factory OEM headlights. You couldn't see the hazy in the day time, only when the headlights were turned on. It only happened to one side though. I'm not sure exactly what the "haze spot" was, but I'm 99.9% sure it was from the heat of the hyperwhites. Just something else to consider if you plan on getting high wattage bulbs. I'll NEVER run any headlight bulbs higher than stock wattage in my JDM Stanely CTR headlights I have on right now. Pointless to trash out $400 headlights just for the look some peon 90/100w $20 bulbs give me. I'll stick with my Silver Stars, though I'm really itching to try out some PIAA Super Plasma GT-X bulbs which are also stock wattage.

haha, i got the same bulbs on my teg. it trips out people cause when it's not lit, it has a orange/blueish color. once they see it on, they wonder what happened to the bulbs :tongue:. the bulbs are kinda expensive but they should last quite awhile.

since we're talking about light bulb conversions, what do you guys think of the 9005 silverstar conversion? i used to have them for about 2 months before i sold the bulbs cause the light was actually blinding me. do you think if i had them longer it'll melt my harness?
