'99 Suburban...Fuel Pump Failure Common??

I have only 45k on my 99 Suburban, replaced the Fuel Pump at 40K...seems like everyone I talk to with a Suburban or Tahoe, or a Vortec V6 in Chevys smaller trucks has had fuel pump failure... I do replace the filter once a year....whats the deal??
