For $500 you can do a lot. If you want, you can get this stuff.. clear corner turn signals, clear tail lights, and an slp spoiler, and you'll still have some money left over.

and another thing that everyone HAS to have is those extreme white 5200k headlights, cuz they look really nice, and they only cost like 40-50 dollars.

well to get you spinning I would think of a DHP V1(The Burning Rom stated that V2 comes out soon) that costs around 400 and the trasher pulley that will go with the ECU(PCM) programming. That is a mod that is not that hard to make, is not that expensive either and you will see results just to start.
Then you can add the K&N air filter with the Chetah extention tube, other mod ease to do without tearing your engin appart.
Then you can add cam shafts, lighter valvetrain, a stronger fuelpump and
the Ripn12s and the Burning Rom could take you from there.

Scratch the pulley. If I'm not mistaken he's driving a GT.
What to do with $500........hmmmmmmm. The first thing I did to my car was to yank the factory mufflers. I didn't like the sound. That cost right around $250 at a muffler shop, installed. You could always trim the front off your air box for more flow.....that would cost you nothing. Unlesss, of course, you decided to put a K&N flat panel filter in there. That's about $40, I think.

Carnut:
You are correct, doublechecked and he is driving a gt but pretty much everything else can be done. I installed on my car a panel K&N since the SLP hood is taking for ever to come out and been told by the Burning Rom that does not make a noticeable diffence and to tell you the truth so far (2 weeks with it installed) that assumption is correct.
Besides what I mentioned is there anything else you can do without taking the engine apart?

I would go with the exhaust first at a muffler shop, dont waste your money on those 500-600 dollar ones, to me they all do the samething in the end just sound different. Then do a CAI and maybe when you come into a bit more money you can do a TB from ZZP.
If you go with the new exhaust you may want to get the u-bend removed and the resonator if you want, possibly even the cat if you dont live in a state that does those smog tests.

$500 will buy you an Thrasher cold air induction system, 8mm Plug wires, and new spark plugs. Thats basically all you need unless you want to go more extreme and put a hydraulic cameshaft & lifters in.

Don't worry about having the u-bend removed, its not worth it at all! Muffler shops hate doing it because they have to drill a new hole for the O2 sensore and thread it out. Believe me they will charge you. All i would do is go out to a local advanced auto parts store, buy two dynomax super turbo mufflers 2 1/4in. offset inlet 2 1/4in. center out and some cheap cool looking 2 1/2in. inlet and 3 1/2in. outlet tips. I would have the resonator removed also. Having it removed is about a 6 HP gain and the loss of weight.

It be kind of hard making a functional ram air hood....A cold air induction is the best way.

Why wouldnt you get the U-bend removed? it restricts the flow of the exhaust alot from what I have read. just go buy the o2 spoofer tie strap it to something and your good to go. no need to drill a hole. It cost 50 bucks to get my cat, resonator and u-bend to be removed. I think its another 40-50 for the o2 spoffer too.

the other cash ill save for something.. ir ill take out the u bend....?

Who removed your converter? Does having the u-bend removed make the exhaust tone louder or sound different?

I muffler shop by my house removed the converter for me. The only thing removing the u-bend does is allow the exhaust to flow better by straighting out the exhaust instead of haveing a big bend in the end before the mufflers. Removing the resonator makes the tone louder and sound different not by much but you can notice the difference.

Muffler shops tell me that removing my converter will cause my car to act up and possibly not run. I think that is a line of BS.
Brandon Budd
12-30-2003, 10:43 PM
Fine its a line of BS as you say but I bet you anything its cuz its illegal to remove them so thats why they are telling you that. It wont act up so your muffler shop is filling you with BS, you can come look at the many cars in MIGPC that dont have them if you wish maybe that will change you mind, Also why then does grandprixstore sell a racing pipe that replaces the catylitic converter. If supposedly it mess up the car and makes it not work why sell a racing pipe at all. Maybe its a conspiracy for us to all waste our money and for muffler shops to do it and make more money when they tell you sh!t happens and you have to put another 300 dollat cat back on.
Ripn12s

I think they're telling you this because:
1. Illegal to replace if not damaged
2. They dont want a customer coming back to the shop a few days later complaining about a SES light because the shop/customer had no idea that they need to spoof the sensor or eliminate the code for that sensor

Just as Ripn12s said, I didnt mean to be so sarcastic, I had a sh!tty day at work just to come home to a screming new born baby. God do I love life sometimes.
Is it not a huge fine if you get pulled over and they notice that you dont have a converter? I bet you could, in this day and age, just say you didnt know it was illegal then blame it on the muffler shop and then sue them if you get a ticket and just say you thought it was okay to do since they did it.
Heres a webpage to read about how the U-bend effects your car:

Basically they might tell you whatever to make you keep the converter because if the related Government Agency finds out they are eliminating them the fine would be so big that they might have to close the muffler shop. I just went to the ZZP site and they claim that a L36 will gain ~3HP and ~2.9lb/ft torque and that a L67 will gain ~6HP and around 5lb/ft torque just by removing the bend. Definetly for the price is a good mod to install

There was no noticable sound change when I removed my U. A few people in the St. Louis GP club have their resonators removed.....I don't like the sound so I left my resinator in place.
It's illegal in Missouri to remove the converter (except for off-road use) and I don't want to mess with reinstalling it at inspection time. Needless to say, my converter is still in place.
I have the Thrasher CAI and I really like it......I like the Wizair better but it wasn't around when I bought mine.
Not to hijack the thread here but, are GPs great or what? I'm an old fugger so I don't misbehave very often on the road (yeah right). I stopped at a red the other day with my GF and this young cat was next to me in a beautiful '98ish Mustang GT convertible. I complimented him on his car and he returned the compliment. The light turned green, he and I looked at each other, shrugged, and stomped it! We ran about 1/4 mile and he was a couple of car lengths behind me. WOOOOO!
Gotta love those GPs! Man it's gotta suck being beaten by a four door with car seats in the back! :lol2:

yeah, i know....if you take the resonator off it will cause more interior resonance and make exhaust tone deeper.

Well, basically for $500.00 is better to get a Cheetah tube with K&N Cone, DHP or Similar Aftermarket PCM, that could be 1st mod.
2nd Mod could be doing some work on the exausht but not wasting any money(a.k.a. Basically get the U Bend Off and if enough cash around install headers)
Then you from the 3rd mod onward work on the engine internals like installing cams, rollers, porting valves seats(installing bigger valves) and stuff like that. (But that is a major job).
