Power Steering Pump

I’m looking for any information on the 2002 Trailblazer power steering pump. Mine’s being replaced/rebuilt for the third time in 18 months/48,000 miles. It went out again on Christmas Eve and the dealer now tells me Chevy has discontinued the pump, that there’s no after market comparable available, and the only way to fix it is by ordering the component parts and rebuilding it.

I have a quick question, my power steering just went out. How do you know if it is the pump? Of course the dealer can't look at it until Friday now. So two days without the car.

I first noticed the problem while trying to pull into a parking spot. Turing the wheel got very hard and we would have hit the adjacent car if the brakes weren’t slammed on. Then the steering acted normally at road speeds. The next day I found the steering difficult when making a corner or turning the wheel at low RPM's. The three times the steering system acted like this, the dealer found it was pump failure. Be careful if you continue to drive your Trailblazer, as this can be a safety issue and potentially cause an accident.

I think they might be giving you a line of BS about having to rebuild them, I just picked up mine tonight and they put a brand new whole pump on because it was making noise....might want to try a different dealer...I go to a trusted dealer in another state that takes me 45 mins. to get to but it's definately worth the drive...just my .02

I just had it replaced. There is no aftermarket pump available and it cost me $387 at the dealership. The line about having it rebuilt sounds like bs.
