Hi, I recently purchased a new engine from advance auto parts and after putting together I think I may have install the plug in the intake gasket on the wrong side. Could someone tell me what is the purpose of the plug(I think it blocks a water port, not sure) and what consequences having it on the wrong side will cause. Which side does it actually go on? I haven't run the engine but maybe a minute or two. I was concerned about this, so I bought a new intake gasket set from the fierostore.com and it didn't even come with a plug! do I need a plug in it?
tks for any help on this

i assume the plug you are talking about is a little white or clear plastic plug about 1/4 inch long? they are just there to hold the gasket in place as you install the intake over it, if you missed one thats fine, but if you put in in backwards, chances are the intake didnt seal right since there is no hole for it to go into on the intake side. either that or it fell out, which means its rattleing around your valley. if it fell out, i wouldnt worry about it to much, they are pretty soft and will eventually make its way down into the oil pan, but if its backwards, like i said before it may not have sealed correctly. its up to you if you want to rip the thing apart again to replace it. if its backwards the motor will run like crap leak oil or coolant and lots of vaccum.
