If they were looking at Christmas lights, it means they were in a residential area.

If you really have to streetrace - that's the LAST place to do it! At the very least, use a deserted industrial area or something.

Yah he hit his own mother in another car with an old lady, she was 72 i believe. Killed both his mother and her. Imagine that.

Losing your mother, let alone any family member is hard, but when you KILL your own mother over a senseless act such as this ... that is really saddening. This kid is going to live with this for the rest of his life and it will haunt him everyday - hopefully this incident will open his eyes and he'll start using his brain. It's his fault, so hopefully he'll learn something from his suffering that he put unto himself.

DAMN.....I couldn't even fathom what would be going through my mind if that happened.

Would it be entirely heartless to say that im feeling no sympathy for this fellow? I mean, racing in a fucking neighborhood.....

I don't understand why you guys keep saying "in a neighborhood". Street racing is a bad idea, whether you're "in a neighborhood" or on a deserted backroad. Now, i'm not saying that everyone should obey the law to the letter, never break the speed limit, and go to church every Sunday....but, street racing is just WRONG. If you think you're so damn fast, do an SCCA event or hit the run-what-you-brung day at the drag strip. Then you can go as fast as you want, under controlled conditions, without putting others in danger. If you wad up your car in turn three there's an ambulance right there to take care of you, and most of all - i don't have to worry about you killing me or my family just to prove you're "cooler" or "faster" than some guy in a hopped-up Civic.

Please guys, save it for the track.

I feel really bad for the poor kid and his family. Most of us have street raced before but I bet no one could see killing their own mother doing it. Good thing I have been cuting down on my street racing habbit.

I don't forbid street racing. If I'm at a light next to someone trying to test nuts, I'll floor it and see what he got. But I don't even take my speed past 60mph, after I hit that I stop. I wouldn't be in no neighborhood doing dat sh*t though. He will learn a lot from this.

Yeah, i cant say dont streetrace, simpy because that would be hypocritical, and i know that no matter what i say many people are still gonna do it anyway.....so, streetrace as responsibly as possible. Im sure most of the people here have streetraced but, im also sure it wasnt in a place that gets any traffic. I mean, a straight road in the dead of night is a lot different from a neighborhood, and the risk is much much much LOWER, but still there......

DON'T STREET RACE. IT'S FUCKING STUPID.

And don't worry about being a hypocrit. Just because we do things we shouldn't, it doesn't make it OK. Just recognize that fact and hold yourself to a higher standard. Street racing certainly isn't my cross to bear, but I sure have others. I don't stop holding myself to a higher starndard however.

Listen to this...this really sucks also...my own co-worker

couple months ago on a foggy weekend day my co-worker got in a accident while racing. It was really foggy that night and he hit a parked car or something...His passenger which was his best friend died. The driver was drunk. He was on probation for a prior DUI. He just got remarried. A baby on the way. He already has two kids 8 and 10 from his previous marriage. He supports his mother and family. He is currently in jail waiting for court. He is facing 5+ years for manslaughter and other stuff...This really sucks...and he was a really nice guy too....

No offence but he sounds like a fucking idiot! I feel sorry for the people that depend on this asshole for his support. :(

Remember that street racing accident in the news a couple weeks ago J.

There were these morons that were racing and one of them was racing in, get this, a RAV4 (or so what looked to be one). As you can all imagine, the RAV4 lost control .. spun out, went over the curb on to someone's property. The sad thing out of all this was .. there was an 18 yr old kid walking home from school on the sidewalk, listening to music and was hit by the RAV4 and died on the scene.

I'm sure similar incidents are happening all over. I think it's time to start a coalition organization - DRIVES AGAINST PARENTS BUYING THEIR KIDS A CAR THE NEXT DAY AFTER THEY GET THEIR LICENSE :). But then again, some of you wouldn't like that :D.

I'll confess that I didn't read the entire article, but it sounded to me like he was racing on a highway--not a neighborhood.

Granted, that does NOT make it any more reasonable. That does not make it AT ALL reasonable, but I wanted to say something...

At any rate, I don't always stay at only 5mph over the speed limit, I'll be the first to confess to that. But racing on a public roadway where traffic is common is downright stupid. Granted, that is a very heavy price to pay, but if he is ever allowed out of jail, I am sure he will think twice about pulling another such stupid, brainless, juvenile, shallow, moronic stunt ever again.
