Cigarette lighter wiring...

I have a STD which didnt come with a lighter and I want to add a cig lighter receptacle for cell phone charging, etc. I picked one up at radioshack which should work nicely with some minor dremel work (in case anyone else is doing the same thing), but I'm wondering if anyone knows if the wiring for the original lighter should be there even though the car didnt come for one

I dont know where to look for it, though there's definitely an extra connector in there besides the one that went to the factory stereo, so I'm thinking that might be it.

I could always draw power from the acc. line on the radio, but if there's a separate fuse for the lighter it'd be nice to keep them separate

There is a relay for the lighter.

the lighter relay has a yellow/red & white/blue wire feeding it & white/green coming off the relay to the lighter with grounds(1 from relay & 1 from lighter)

i just put a lighter in my STD.. the wires were already there.. there should be a connector in the center dash unit that has nothing plugged into it... 2 wires... it is very obvious what it is once you have the panel taken off... it was a super easy install.. and it seems to be constant ... as in +batt and not +ign...so its on all the time....so you can smoke cigarettes and charge your cell phone with the car off...yay...

Thanks!

Though I am a bit confused now... if it is const power why would it need a relay?

No biggie, I'll just go poke around in my console and see what's what.

Honda's lighters are not constant - switched w/ ignition

My STD did not have the wires there when I wanted to install a 12V source...there was just a little "plug" where the lighter 'should' have been...first I had to knock that out and then install the lighter. Mine ran constant too, the mechanic that I had hook it up (electrical and me do not agree) said that's the only way he could do it.

Update : I took a look and there were actually two extra connectors. I located the lighter relay, and one of the loose connectors had actually been unplugged from this so someone could tap into the ACC wire for the radio (my harness is a total hack job, with a shitty radio and alarm install)

anyways, plugging that one loose connector into the relay sent ACC power to the other connector, so now I know I've got the right one for the lighter! And this is in a STD with no original lighter on the console. A little soldering and I'll be in business!

thanks again
